GUSCIORA BILL WILL COMBAT IMITATION GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS USED TO PREY ON PUBLIC

Lawmaker Says Retailers and Marketing Companies Should Not Use Simulated Government Documents to Dupe Unsuspecting Public

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Reed Gusciora today announced he is crafting legislation to prohibit retailers and marketing companies from using documents that simulate government forms in their sales pitches.

The bill would make using such documents – whether through the mail or the Internet - a violation of the Consumer Fraud Act.

“Marketing companies that use these simulated forms are preying on the vulnerability of the average citizen during a national recession,” said Gusciora (D-Mercer). “This is not just unconscionable, but should be illegal. Many New Jerseyans who thought they were getting help from the government are instead being faced with the harsh reality that they were duped.”

Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts (D-Camden) has picked Assemblyman Albert Coutinho (D-Newark) to replace Joseph Vas (D-Perth Amboy) on the Assembly Budget Committee.  Vas was stripped of his committee assignments and leadership posts following his indictment on state corruption charges last month.

Celeste Riley (D-Bridgeton), who won a special election convention to replace Douglas Fisher, who is now the Secretary of Agriculture, will take Fisher's seat on the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.  She has also been assigned to the Regulated Professions and Telecommunications and Utilities Committee.

Linda Stender (D-Fanwood) has been named to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for the remainder of the legislative session.  She will replace Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton), who too Vas' post as Chairman of the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee.

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Reed Gusciora has been appointed the new chairman of the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee.

“New Jersey has long been an economic engine for the rest of the nation and it’s an honor to be named chairman of this important committee at such a crucial time,” said Gusciora (D-Mercer). “As we work to stave off the global economic recession, this committee will play a key role in our continuing efforts to ensure New Jersey emerges strong and I look forward to finding new ways to attract and retain more businesses and jobs to our state.”

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton) is the new Chairman of the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee.  He replaced Joseph Vas (D-Perth Amboy), who was removed following his indictment on state corruption charges last month.

There is now a romantic alliance between Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton) and State Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Elizabeth).  Gusciora's chief of staff, Mike DeLoreto, recently became engaged to Erin Caragher, Lesniak's press secretary.

Lawrence Mayor Pam Mount is a potential Assembly candidate in the 15th district, if Bonni Watson Coleman runs for Lt. Governor this year.

If Jon Corzine picks Bonnie Watson Coleman to run for Lt. Governor in June, Democrats in the Mercer County-based fifteenth district would need to hold a special primary convention to pick a new candidate for State Assembly.  Watson Coleman could keep her Assembly seat, but she would not be permitted to seek both offices in November 2009.

Democrats will feel some pressure to replace Watson Coleman with another African American candidate, but in a district that has not had a legislative vacancy since 1997, it might be hard for state Democratic leaders to dictate anything.

Possible candidates include: Trenton City Council President Paul Pintella; Trenton Councilwoman Cordelia Staton; Lawrence Mayor Pam Mount; Mercer County Freeholder Lucy Walter (D-Ewing); and Kelly Ganges, the former Executive Director of the Assembly Democratic Office and now the Chief of Staff to Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes.

GUSCIORA ON THE 'MOTOR VEHICLE OWNERS RIGHT TO REPAIR ACT'

(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Reed Gusciora today issued a multimedia package on his legislation to create a "Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act," to provide New Jersey motorists with unprecedented choice in the automotive repair marketplace.

The measure (A-803) would require motor vehicle manufacturers to provide vehicle owners, independent garages and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs with the information and computer codes necessary to perform diagnostic checks and routine maintenance.
