(TRENTON) - Assembly Democrats today issued the following multimedia package as the Assembly Budget committee considered legislation that would expand the state's network of social support programs amid a continuing global economic meltdown.

The panel met as part of a concerted effort by the Assembly to continue its focus on helping New Jerseyans and businesses emerge strong from the global financial crisis.

Assembly committees today considered 19 pieces of legislation to revamp state business taxes and incentives, help struggling homeowners, promote jobs, protect consumers from financial fraud and help low-income residents.

ASSEMBLY PANEL CLEARS PLAN TO MAKE NJ ELEVENTH STATE WITH ‘SILVER ALERT’ SYSTEM FOR MISSING ELDERLY

(TRENTON) -- A plan to make New Jersey the eleventh state with a “Silver Alert” system to notify the public about missing elderly people was released Monday by an Assembly committee.

The plan is based on the “Amber Alert” system used by state police to locate missing children. The measure is sponsored by Assembly members Sandi Love, Wayne DeAngelo, Caridad ‘Cary’ Rodriquez, Paul Moriarty, and Pamela R. Lampitt.

Paul Moriarty on congressional aspirations: 'never say never'

Earlier this week, Assemblyman Paul Moriarty announced that he wouldn’t stand for reelection for his other elected office: mayor of Washington Township (the one in Gloucester County).

The announcement came less than a week after Moriarty’s name surfaced as a potential replacement for first district Rep. Rob Andrews, who’s vacating the seat to take on incumbent Senator Frank Lautenberg in the June primary.

Moriarty gives up mayoral post

Assemblyman Paul Moriarty has decided not to seek re-election as Mayor of Washington Township, even the new state law barring dual officeholding would allow him to run because he held both posts before February of this year.  Instead, the local Democratic organization is backing former Councilman Matt Lyons.  Lyond will face Josh Aronovitch in the Democratic primary.
