Crotty announces retirement; Codey names Gillespie as new Senate Democratic E.D.

Patrick Gillespie will succeed Kathy Crotty as Executive Director of the Senate Majority Office.

Kathleen Crotty, the longtime Executive Director of the Senate Majority Office, will retire next week.  Senate President Richard Codey has picked another longtime staffer, Patrick Gillespie, to succeed her.

“If anyone can attempt to fill Kathy’s shoes, it’s Pat Gillespie,” Codey said. “Pat has dedicated both his professional and personal life to serving the public’s greater good. In addition to his broad knowledge of all things government, he is a well-liked and well-respected public servant. His demonstrated confidence and commitment make him the perfect person to help lead the Senate Majority Office as we tackle the unprecedented challenges that lie ahead.”

Crotty first joined the Senate staff in 1974, after Democrats had won control of both houses of the Legislature in the 1973 election that brought Codey to Trenton as a freshman Assemblyman. Senate President John Russo named her to replace Robert Noonan as Executive Director in 1986.  She has held the top Senate Democratic staff post through the leadership terms of John Lynch and Codey.

Gillespie, a veteran Old Bridge Councilman and former State Assembly candidate,  has served on the Senate Democratic staff since 1993, except for a short time he spent in the executive branch while Codey was Acting Governor.   He was U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone’s District Director from 1989 to 1993.
