DIEGNAN/LAMPITT ON BILL TO STANDARDIZE SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT CONTRACTS

Measure Would Protect Taxpayers by Creating Statewide Boilerplate Contract Language

(TRENTON) - Assembly members Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr., and Pamela R. Lampitt today issued a multimedia package on legislation they sponsored to implement a statewide contract template for the hiring of all public school superintendents.

The bill (A-3185) would require that all school districts in New Jersey use a standard contract template when hiring a new superintendent.  The template would address all aspects of employment, including salary, health insurance, pension benefits, sick leave and vacation days.  The sponsors said their measure would create greater transparency and allow for more thorough evaluations of potentially excessive contracts.

Brodeur, a West Orange resident who has played with the New Jersey Devils for his entire NHL career, surpassed the win record of 551 games, previously held by Patrick Roy, on March 17.

Measure Gives Gas Station Franchise Owners Right of First Refusal if Franchise is Sold

(TRENTON) - Assemblymen Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr., Upendra J. Chivukula and Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. today issued a multimedia package on legislation signed into law by Governor Jon S. Corzine designed to help small business owners who operate a gas station franchise.

Under the new law (A-3726), the owner of a gas station franchise - typically a big oil company - is prohibited from selling or transferring any franchise operated by a small business owner for at least three years without first giving the current owner the option to purchase the franchise or the right of first refusal to match any offer made to purchase the franchise.

DIEGNAN/VAINIERI HUTTLE ON BILL TO HELP CHARITIES AND NON-PROFITS WEATHER THE GLOBAL RECESSION

(TRENTON) - Assembly members Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr. and Valerie Vainieri Huttle issued a multimedia package today on legislation they sponsored to give charitable organizations more discretion to spend and invest endowment funds, helping them better weather the global economic recession.

Currently, non-profit organizations in the state are only able to fund their efforts through interest earned from the initial endowment that created the organization.  The bill (A-3871) would create a clear set of rules allowing charities to fund their efforts directly from an endowment, providing non-profits more financial flexibility in pursuing their missions.
