Assemblyman Gary S. Schaer

Assemblyman Gary S. Schaer (D-Passaic) this afternoon released the following statement regarding the nomination of Passaic City native Stuart Rabner as the next Attorney General of New Jersey.

"I am extraordinarily pleased about Governor Corzine's nomination of one of Passaic's own as the next Attorney General of New Jersey.

"For the past several years, I have had the pleasure to participate in the annual Holocaust Memorial which Stuart Rabner chaired on behalf of the Jewish Federation of Clifton/Passaic. Stuart always took his responsibilities seriously and I am confident that the Passaic and Clifton Jewish community, and all communities, have benefited from his strong leadership and organizational skills for many years.

"With the nomination of Stuart Rabner, Governor Corzine has chosen a highly respected legal thinker whose impeccable ethical standards are well known and regarded throughout the state.

"Additionally, Stuart's reputation for taking on political corruption and malfeasance is the sort of leadership Governor Corzine has pledged for his administration.

"I look forward to Stuart's quick confirmation by the New Jersey Senate and his capable stewardship of the Department of Law and Public Safety."

State Senator Paul A. Sarlo

SARLO - GOVERNOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL AG, 'YOU'RE FIRED'

Senator Says He Will Propose Legislation Removing Constitutional Protections for Office

TRENTON - Senator Paul A. Sarlo, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced today that he would introduce legislation asking voters to strip the Attorney General and Secretary of State of the constitutional protections of their offices, leaving them subject to the same terms of employment as other cabinet members.

"Constitutional protections for the Attorney General and the Secretary of State is an idea whose time has come and gone," said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. "At one point, these posts required additional job security to effectively accomplish the mission of the office. But in recent years, the hurdles to remove them have kept some people in the job a lot longer than they should have been."

DeCROCE: DEMOCRAT 'PORKFEST' IS A DISGRACE

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic, issued the following statement this morning in reaction to hundreds of millions of dollars in "pork" placed in the state budget at the 11th hour:

"The taxpayers have reason enough to be angry about the impending imposition of more than $2 billion in higher taxes. But for the Democrats to gorge themselves at an 11th hour pork roast adds insult to economic injury. This is not the time to bloat the budget with hundreds of millions of dollars in pet projects that are obviously designed to reward select Democrats for their promise of support. This last minute 'porkfest' is an outrage. I fully expect Governor Corzine will side with the taxpayers and use his veto pen to get rid of these disgraceful giveaways as soon as this budget reaches his desk."

For Property Tax Relief Hinges on a Big 'If'

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce says the budget deal struck by Democrats today to end their six-day stalemate is a bad deal for taxpayers.

"We don't need a sales tax hike to balance the budget or provide additional funds for property tax relief," said DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. "Every taxpayer in the state will become a casualty of this unprecedented budget debacle."
