SENATOR GILL NOTES PROGRESS OF LIFE-SAVING NEEDLE EXCHANGE PLAN

TRENTON - Senator Nia H. Gill today applauded the legislative progress of her bill, S-494, to authorize needle exchange programs which will bring New Jersey closer to containing the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Senator Gill's measure, which would authorize trial needle exchange programs in six municipalities, was approved today the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee and now goes to the full Senate. It advanced with a $10 million appropriation that is to be used solely to expand drug treatment programs.

"It is scientifically undisputed that access to sterile syringes is an effective tool as part of a comprehensive plan to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS," said Senator Gill, D-Essex and Passaic. "New Jersey has twice the rate of HIV infection resulting from shared needle use compared to the rest of the nation. New Jersey is the only state in the nation that does not permit access to clean needles in order to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. With today's action, we are now one step closer to eliminating this dubious distinction and saving lives."

Pascrell has strong ties to Scarinci: He should return tainted money

Passaic, NJ According to the Federal Elections Commission, Bill Pascrell has strong ties with Donal Scarinci, the powerful North Jersey lawyers who was secretly recorded using Menendez's name to pressure a Hudson County psychiatrist to hire a doctor. Since 1997, Pascrell has received $11,200 from Donald Scarinci. Just last year, he received $2,000 from Scarinci.

Corruption scandals have been at the forefront of New Jersey politics, especially for Senator Bob Menendez this year. Pascrell’s campaign donations show that he too is involved with the same people that have shown to practice unethical behavior.

The voters of the 8th Congressional District are tired of corrupted politicians and business as usual. They deserve to know what is Pascrell’s relationship with Scarinci and with Dr. Oscar Sandoval, said Jose Sandoval, candidate for U.S. Congress (NJ-08). Pascrell needs to return Scarinci’s donations, they are tainted money. (Dr. Oscar Sandoval is not related to Jose Sandoval)

It is time to elect a leader that will listen to the voters and not special interest, and will fight for those that need it the most, added Sandoval. I know that the voters of 8th district want change and will vote for me this November.

Jose Sandoval is running for New Jersey’s Eight Congressional District. Jose is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent, and immigrated to the United States in the early 1970’s, where he has been a resident of New Jersey ever since. Jose has a BA in Economics and Finance from Rutgers University, and a law degree from Cleveland State University. He owns an urban real estate company in Passaic, New Jersey.

Jose and his wife, Amy, have four children.

Jose Sandoval has roundtable discussion with Hispanic press

FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION

Passaic, NJ Jose Sandoval, candidate for Congress in NJ-08, had a roundtable discussion yesterday with the top Hispanic media outlets from New Jersey and New York. The Hispanic press had the opportunity to listen to the candidate speak about his campaign and ask him questions about his position on key policy issues affecting the Hispanic community in the district, such as immigration, education and housing.

When I arrived to New Jersey in the seventies I only had $13 in my pocket. With hard work and dedication I achieved the American Dream. I was able to put myself through college, go to law school and develop a successful urban real estate firm, said Sandoval. This country opened doors for me and gave me the opportunity to move up. Now it is my time to give something back to the community and open doors for others.

I am running for the 8th Congressional District because we need change. The representation we have in Washington is broken and it is time to fix it and make it work for us again.

Sandoval added, Our taxes are through the roof, our children are not learning, and our streets are filthy, in disrepair and riddled with crime. Affordable housing is non existent and businesses are leaving and taking their jobs elsewhere. We all see these problems but they are not being solved.

For nearly a decade we have had a Congressman in Washington who has not been able to effectively represent our community. The voters of this district need someone who understands their needs and will fight for them. Someone from the community they can trust to improve their quality of life.

As Congressman, I will make sure federal funds are given back to our schools. I will work to give our teachers the necessary tools and I will provide schools with more funds for infrastructure.

Taxes are out of control, Sandoval continued. Our families and business owners are feeling the burden every day. Unlike my opponent, I support making the federal tax cuts permanent. These cuts help everyone’s wallet and help the economy. I will not only work to reduce taxes for our families, but also look for new tax incentives that help our small businesses grow.

Finally, I will work with the federal government to bring more programs to the district that will help reduce the cost of housing and help families own their own homes.
