DeCROCE URGES CORZINE
TO INSIST ON REAL REFORM

Says a 'Something is Better Than Nothing' Attitude Won't Do

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce today urges Governor Jon Corzine to stand up to the members of his own party in the Legislature who are determined to gut one reform initiative after another.

Reacting to a statement by the governor during a live interview on NJ 101.5 FM this morning that some reform is better than nothing, DeCroce reminded Corzine of his promise to taxpayers that he would use the power of his office to end "business as usual" in the State House.

"The governor must stand up for his beliefs," said DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. "If he settles for scraps from the table, this golden opportunity for reform will have been wasted."

DeCROCE CALLS DECISION BY SENATE DEMOCRATS
TO GUT STATE COMPTROLLER BILL APPALLING

'We Should be Slapping the Handcuffs on Corrupt Politicians,
not the State's Financial Watchdog'

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce today condemned Senate Democrats for trying to prevent the state's new fiscal watchdog from investigating shady land deals that have cost the taxpayers millions of dollars but lined the pockets of corrupt politicians.

DeCroce said the modified state comptroller bill introduced by Senate Democrats would also make it almost impossible for the comptroller to target wasteful or questionable spending practices that continue to drive up property taxes in municipalities across New Jersey.

"It is absolutely incredible that on the same day a federal judge ordered a former Democrat Senate President to begin a prison term next week for corruption charges, including one involving a land transaction, that the Senate Democrats would gut the state comptroller bill," asserted DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic.

Schaer's constituents have nothing to say about Civil Union vote

Assemblyman Gary Schaer, one of four Assembly Democrats who refused to vote yes or no on legislation to legalize civil unions, isn't taking any heat at all -- or getting any praise -- for his position. Actually, it seems that people in the 36th district, which includes parts of Bergen, Essex and Passaic counties, don't seem to care either way. "We haven't heard any feedback," said Schaer Chief of Staff Andrew Schwab. "Nobody has called, written, emailed."
