TRENTON – On Monday, six Senate Committees will meet to discuss issues ranging from strengthening New Jersey’s driving while under the influence (DUI) laws, to school choice, to streamlining the property tax reassessment process in New Jersey, to posting nutritional information of food available in chain restaurants.
The Senate Republican caucus announced today that they have unanimously voted to keep their strong leadership team in place for the next year. In addition, the senators also unanimously agreed to cast their votes for Senator Kean as the next Senate president.
Senator Philip Haines, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, sent a letter (attached below) today to the Executive Director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority asking why they were forced to issue short-term bonds to avoid defaulting on current debt. The letter is attached.

Frank Lautenberg has a $4.3 million warchest
Today was the deadline for filing federal campaign returns, and the landscape of New Jersey politics hasn’t altered drastically.
In the Senate race, only Frank Lautenberg has filed with the Federal Election Commission. While the numbers have not yet appeared on the site, campaign manager Brendan Gill said that the 84-year-old Democrat has raised $931,700 during the last quarter of 2007, bringing his cash on hand total to about $4.32 million.
If Leonard Lance wins his race for Congress this year, there would be three separate elections to fill his seat in the State Senate.
The first contest would be a Special Election Convention, held by the Republican County Committee in Hunterdon and Warren counties 7 to 35 days after Lance resigns. In that race, there are 216 possible votes from Hunterdon and 180 from Warren -- if all County Committee seats are filled.
