(TRENTON) – The Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee will meet Monday to hear testimony from invited guests concerning the sale of raw milk.

New Jersey law bans the sale of raw milk. Other states allow it.

ALBANO/MILAM BILL TO PROMOTE NEW JERSEY WINERIES NOW LAW

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matt Milam sponsored to promote New Jersey wineries by declaring November as “New Jersey Wine Month” was signed into law today.

New Jersey is the fifth largest producer of wine in the country, and the winemaking industry contributes approximately $1.3 million each year to New Jersey’s economy. Wine produced in the state continues to be recognized and win awards both nationally and internationally.

“New Jersey’s wines, wineries, and vineyards are an important part of the state’s agricultural diversity, tourism and economy,” Albano said. “Other states have identified one month every year as the state’s ‘Wine Month,’ successfully increasing awareness of state-produced wines and promoting visits to local wineries and vineyards. New Jersey should do nothing less, too.”

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matt Milam sponsored to promote best practices for teaching students with reading disabilities and difficulties with language skills was released Monday by a Senate panel.

“Having the ability to read is vital to succeeding in school and getting a good job,” said Albano. “We need to redouble our efforts to ensure that every child is able to read and to overcome difficulties that can lessen their future prospects for success.”

(VINELAND) – Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam on Thursday hailed the Environmental Protection Agency’s plans to use federal stimulus funding to speed the cleanup of contamination from the long-toxic Vineland Chemical Company site.

“This site has long plagued not only Vineland, but the entire region and our precious natural resources,” Milam said. “We’ve advocated for a faster cleanup and are pleased to see it’s now going to happen. This site has been on the EPA’s national priorities list since 1984, so this is long overdue and will cut two years off the Blackwater Branch cleanup. That’s good news for the health and welfare of the entire region.”

(FIRST LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Sen. Jeff Van Drew and Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam today lauded the agreement between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and the University of Pennsylvania Health System to keep the health system part of the insurer’s hospital network.

About 40,000 Penn Medicine patients are covered by Horizon. Penn Health includes the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, satellite facilities, nursing programs and provider networks.

Legislators Travel to Oklahoma to Honor Soldiers Prior to Deployment in Iraq

(TRENTON) – Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam today are visiting New Jersey National Guard troops stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. as the soldiers get ready to deploy to Iraq.

Albano and Milam are part of a contingent of federal and state officials who traveled to meet with about 250 soldiers from the 150th Assault Helicopter Battalion.
