ALBANO & MILAM BILL PROMOTES PRODUCTS MADE WITH ‘JERSEY FRESH’ INGREDIENTS

ALBANO & MILAM BILL PROMOTES PRODUCTS MADE WITH ‘JERSEY FRESH’ INGREDIENTS

(TRENTON) – With Labor Day weekend and the autumn looming, Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam are looking to promote foods prepared with “Jersey Fresh” ingredients.

Their bill (A-4038) would designate baked goods and other food products prepared with “Jersey Fresh” produce as “Made With Jersey Fresh.”

“Farmers are New Jersey’s heritage and lifeblood, but they also need our support, especially in these difficult economic times,” said Albano, chairman of the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee that released the bill. “This simple step would encourage and support not only the manufacture of home-grown products but would give consumers an opportunity to buy goods that use locally grown fruits and vegetables.”

“New Jersey grows more than 100 different varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and the state is ranked nationally in the top 10 as a producer of blueberries, cranberries, peaches, bell peppers, squash and tomatoes,” Milam said. “These are all fine ingredients, and promoting them with a ‘Made With Jersey Fresh’ label will further support family farmers and bakers.”

Van Drew on Santorum visit

State Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis) is not concerned with former Republican Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s visit to Cape May County tonight.

“I don’t think those things matter too much, other than raising a bit of money,” he said.

Santorum, a two-term social conservative who lost his seat amid an anti-Republican wave in 2006, will hold a public appearance with Republican Assembly candidates Mike Donohue and John McCann in Cape May Court House, along with some fundraising events.

Van Drew is not on the ballot this year, but his district’s two assemblymen, Matt Milam (D-Vineland) and Nelson Albano (D-Vineland), are considered the state’s two most vulnerable Democratic legislators come November.  As such, Van Drew, who helped his running mates in 2007 with his electoral coattails, is running as if he is up for reelection himself.

Santorum to campaign for District 1 Republicans

Former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is heading to Cape May County on Tuesday to stump for Republican Assembly candidates Michael Donohue and John McCann.

The candidates struck a socially conservative tone in announcing Santorum’s visit.

“For sixteen years, Rick Santorum was a champion of the conservative cause in the Congress,” said Donohue in a statement. “Whether the issue was defending traditional marriage, or fighting for tax cuts for middle class families, or working to protect America against the threat of radical Islamic terrorism, Rick Santorum was always on the front lines. We’re thrilled that he’s able to join us next week to help us reach out to more voters in South Jersey.”

A public rally is scheduled for Tuesday at 5:00pm at Cape May County Park in Cape May Court House, as well as several fundraising events.

Christie leads Corzine in four Democratic districts, according to GOP poll

Republican Christopher Christie is leading in four legislative districts Democrat Jon Corzine carried easily four years ago, according to a poll conducted for the Assembly Republican Victory '09 Committee.

The poll also shows Republicans with an opportunity to pick up State Assembly seats in districts 1, 4, 14 and 19.

"This sizeable lead for Christie means the potential for coattails exists for GOP assembly candidates whose central campaign theme includes lowering taxes and reducing government spending, cleaning up political corruption and bringing change to Trenton," Jim Lee, the president of Susquehanna Polling and Research, a Pennsylvania-based firm, wrote in an analysis memo to the Assembly GOP leadership.

In District 1, Christie leads Corzine by 25 points, 55%-30%.  In 2005, Corzine carried the district 53%-47% against Republican Douglas Forrester.  Republicans win a generic ballot test in the race for Assembly by a 48%-29% margin.  The two incumbents, Nelson Albano (D-Vineland) and Matthew Milam (D-Vineland) are considered the most vulnerable Democrats in the Legislature this year.

Christie leads Corzine 52%-32% in District 4; Corzine beat Forrester in the Camden-Gloucester district by fourteen points, 57%-43%.  Just 27% of voters say that Assemblyman Paul Moriarty (D-Washington Twp.) deserves re-election, while 40% say it's time for a new person.  Republicans lead the generic ballot test 41%-33%.

(TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano, Wayne P. DeAngelo, Matthew W. Milam and Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. to simplify New Jersey’s corporate governance statutes is closer to becoming law.

The bills – part of a multi-bill package - were recently approved by the Senate after being approved by the Assembly in September. They now go the Governor.

“For New Jersey to be competitive as a home for industry in the global marketplace, we need laws that will allow them to operate in real time, using 21st century technology,” said Diegnan (D-Middlesex).
