Imagine Sabrin’s lead if Mary Pat Angelini's robots got to work

The award for the most ridiculous press release of the year – so far – goes to George Ajjan of the Murray Sabrin for U.S. Senate campaign. Ajjan claims Sabrin is the front runner for the GOP nomination, and points to a PolitickerNJ.com poll where he leads Dick Zimmer by twelve percentage points as evidence of his electoral success so far. This website enjoys our online polls, which are for the amusement of our readers and not at all scientific. Most of the time our readers get things right, but on this one, Sabrin might be better served by looking to Patrick Murray for analysis on this one: in a Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll released today, Sabrin was at 4% among Republican voters.

Zimmer is running in the GOP primary against state Sen. Joseph Pennacchio and economist Murray Sabrin.

Poll: Lautenberg leads Andrews in Senate race; Zimmer leads GOP pack

Sen. Frank Lautenberg leads Rep. Ron Andrews by a 35%-20% margin in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary, with Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello at 8%, according to a new Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll released today.  Lautenberg has 59%-19% approval rating among New Jersey Democrats, and a 48%-31% statewide approval.  Andrews has a 13%-15% approval rating among Democratic voters and just 44% of Democrats recognize his name.  But 61% of voters – and 56% of Democrats -- say its time for a new person in the Senate, and just 26% say the 84-year-old Lautenberg should be re-elected.

Voters are split on whether Lautenberg is getting too old to be an effective Senator: 41% say he is, but 46% say he’s not.

“Saying you want new blood is a far cry from actually voting against a seasoned incumbent,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.  “While we did not run a true likely voter match-up for the Senate primaries, the poll indicates that Democratic voters appear unwilling to oust Lautenberg.”

Paul stumps for Sabrin in Newark

Senate candidate Murray Sabrin was presidential candidate Ron Paul’s biggest advocate in New Jersey.  And tonight, Paul, a Texas representative, returned the favor by visiting the self-proclaimed Republican frontrunner for a fundraiser at the Hilton next to Newark’s Penn Station.

The event, which attracted about 100 supporters, cost $250 per head and $100 for the under 30 crowd, who made up about a quarter of the audience.  Though the campaign wasn’t certain exactly how much they made tonight, spokesman George Ajjan announced with great fanfare that the campaign has raised a total of $500,000 so far.

The general theme of the night was an impending economic collapse if the government doesn’t radically alter its fiscal policy.  But Paul, Sabrin and economist Peter Schiff – Paul’s economic advisor --  all said that the Paul’s presidential campaign ignited a movement that has continued with Sabrin’s Senate candidacy, which Paul referred to as “the strategically most important Senate race that’s going on in the country.”

Pennacchio raised $107,710 before March 31st

Leading up to the March 31st Federal Election Commission deadline, Senate candidate Joe Pennacchio raised only $107,710.

At the end of last month, Pennacchio had $25,081 cash-on-hand.

While those numbers appear to contradict the fundraising information the campaign released earlier this month -- which showed Pennacchio having raised $361,710 and having 279,081 -- Pennacchio said that wasn’t the case.

During the two weeks between the FEC’s cut off date and his campaign’s release of the fundraising totals, Pennacchio loaned himself an unspecified amount of money that may account for the discrepancy. As noted by Pennacchio’s campaign when the information was released, that total included two weeks after the FEC's cut off date.
