(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Gordon M. Johnson today issued a multimedia package highlighting the efforts to aid New Jersey residents hit hard by the global economic recession pay utility bills and keep their homes.

The multimedia package - the fifth in a weekly series - from Johnson (D-Bergen) consists of a video press release on the utility payment and foreclosure protections, audio of same and a transcript of Johnson's statement.

SCALERA/CONAWAY/BURZICHELLI/DEANGELO ON SPECIAL JOINT HEARING TO DISCUSS STATE SWINE FLU PREPAREDNESS

(TRENTON) - Assemblymen Fred Scalera, Herb Conaway, M.D., John J. Burzichelli and Wayne P. DeAngelo today issued a multimedia package on a special meeting of the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness and Health and Senior Services committees to review the state's readiness to combat H1N1 influenza.

Scalera and Conaway, the committees' respective chairmen, called the special hearing to alleviate public concern over the new strain of flu and to ensure the state has made all possible preparations to control further outbreaks.

Watson Coleman (D-Mercer) issued the package as the Assembly Budget Committee took testimony from the state Department of Education.

(TRENTON) - Assembly Appropriations Chairwoman Nellie Pou today issued a multimedia package detailing how Governor Jon S. Corzine's budget proposal would preserve and support funding to protect New Jersey's most vulnerable residents, including abused children and the disabled.

Pou (D-Passaic) issued the package as the Assembly Budget Committee took testimony from the state Department of Human Services.

SCALERA FORMS LEGISLATIVE FIRE CAUCUS

Assemblyman Fred Scalera today issued a multimedia package on the formation of a bipartisan, bicameral legislative fire caucus to help educate legislators about fire and life safety issues.

Scalera (D-Essex), a career firefighter and former deputy fire chief, said the newly formed caucus would mirror similar efforts in place at the national level.  The caucus will operate as a nonpartisan advisory body, working to educate legislators about the needs and challenges of New Jersey's fire service professionals and recommending and endorsing specific legislation to provide the types of training and funding needed by first responders.  With nearly 70 members of both parties and both houses signed on to be members, it promises to be one of the largest legislative caucuses in the state.

MORIARTY:  REMINDER TO SENIORS, DISABLED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EXPANDED PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

Deadline to Apply to the Expanded Senior Freeze Property Tax Relief Program June 1

(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Paul D. Moriarty today issued a multimedia package reminding senior citizens and disabled residents of the state's recently expanded Senior Freeze property tax relief program and its June 1 application deadline.

The expansion, signed into law in December, would increase the program's household income eligibility limits from $53,000 to $80,000 over the next three years. Moriarty (D-Gloucester) was a lead sponsor of the legislation, which was part of the comprehensive economic relief package approved by Gov. Jon S. Corzine and legislative Democrats.

Video Press Release First in a Series Designed to Enhance the Public's Understanding of the Budget

(TRENTON) - Assembly Budget Committee Vice Chairman Gary S. Schaer today issued a multimedia package on the priorities being preserved in the proposed fiscal year 2010 budget.

The package came as the Assembly Budget Committee received budget overviews from the state Department of Treasury and the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services.

ASSEMBLY BUDGET PANEL MEMBERS DISCUSS IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON PROPOSED FY 2010 BUDGET

(TRENTON) - Democratic members of the Assembly Budget Committee today issued a multimedia package discussing the importance of holding hearings in which the public can address the committee on the proposed FY2010 budget.

Today's public hearing - the third such hearing on the proposed spending plan -  focused on economic development, public safety, transportation, environment and arts, history and cultural issues.  Since the public hearings began, the committee has taken testimony from roughly 150 individuals and groups.
