ALBANO & MILAM BILL PROMOTING PRODUCTS MADE WITH ‘JERSEY FRESH’ INGREDIENTS APPROVED BY COMMITTEE

(TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assemblymen Nelson T. Albano and Matthew W. Milam to promote foods prepared with “Jersey Fresh” ingredients was released today by an Assembly panel.

The bill (A-4038) would designate baked goods and other food products prepared with “Jersey Fresh” produce as “Made With Jersey Fresh.”

“Farmers are New Jersey’s heritage and lifeblood, but they also need our support, especially in these difficult economic times,” said Albano, chairman of the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee that released the bill. “This simple step would encourage and support not only the manufacture of home-grown products but would give consumers an opportunity to buy goods that use locally grown fruits and vegetables.”

ALBANO / MILAM / WAGNER ‘MADE IN THE USA’ FLAG BILL APPROVED BY SENATE

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assembly members Nelson Albano, Connie Wagner and Matt Milam sponsored to require any United States or New Jersey state flag purchased with state funds be manufactured in the United States was approved today by the Senate.

The bill passed the Assembly 78-0 in November. It was approved 39-0 today by the Senate and now goes to the governor.

“It makes absolutely no sense to allow even one dime of the public’s money to be spent on an American flag made anywhere but in America,” said Albano (D-Cumberland /Atlantic/Cape May). “It is bad enough that our state and nation’s manufacturing bases have largely evaporated as jobs were shipped elsewhere. Buying the most-recognized symbol of our nation from overseas just adds insult to injury.”

ALBANO/MILAM BILL TO PROMOTE NEW JERSEY WINERIES NOW LAW

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matt Milam sponsored to promote New Jersey wineries by declaring November as “New Jersey Wine Month” was signed into law today.

New Jersey is the fifth largest producer of wine in the country, and the winemaking industry contributes approximately $1.3 million each year to New Jersey’s economy. Wine produced in the state continues to be recognized and win awards both nationally and internationally.

“New Jersey’s wines, wineries, and vineyards are an important part of the state’s agricultural diversity, tourism and economy,” Albano said. “Other states have identified one month every year as the state’s ‘Wine Month,’ successfully increasing awareness of state-produced wines and promoting visits to local wineries and vineyards. New Jersey should do nothing less, too.”
