DOHERTY EXPRESSES HIS OPPOSITION TO MVC FEE HIKES IN LETTER TO DIRECTOR; ASKS LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT HIS MVC BILL

Assemblyman Michael Doherty today sent a letter, as a matter of public comment, to a director of the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) voicing his opposition to its proposal to raise fees next year on several services, including significant hikes on motorcycle registrations as well as motor vehicle and boat certificates of ownership.

    With the news today that the average property tax bill now exceeds a staggering $7,000, Assemblyman Michael Doherty said that number will pale in comparison to what property tax rates will be once Governor Jon Corzine implements his proposed budget, which includes state aid cuts to municipalities, reductions in property tax rebates and the elimination of property tax deductions.

DOHERTY AND COYLE INTRODUCE EXPANDED BILL TO END REGULATION OF FEES BY MVC

Assemblyman Michael Doherty and Assemblywoman Denise Coyle introduced an expanded bill today that will end the regulation of fees by the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) by placing all MVC fee increases back under the authority of the Legislature. The bill, A-3850, has 29 Assembly Republican co-sponsors.
