Tittel delighted by Obama's selection of Jackson at EPA

Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey chapter of the Sierra Club, lavishes praise on Lisa Jackson, former director of the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and President-elect Barack Obama’s choice to head the national Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 

“I think it’s a great appointment,” said Tittel. “She’s young, dynamic, well-spoken and has very strong, core environmental beliefs.”

Calling the 46-year old Jackson “Corzine’s star,” Tittel credited her with convincing the governor to support the state’s global warming initiative and for strengthening the alternative energy focus of the state’s energy plan.

Environment NJ praises Obama's choice of Jackson to head EPA

Environment New Jersey today issued a release praising President-elect Barack Obama’s choice of Lisa Jackson to head the Environmental Protection Agency.

"It represents a 180 degree turnaround for the United States on the environment," spokesman Matt Elliot said of the former dircector of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. "While President Bush has stifled new environmental protections and unraveled old ones, Lisa Jackson has for the past three years been working to make New Jersey a national leader on some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time."

Elliot cited Jackson's work on the Global Warming Response Act and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

NBC: Jackson to head EPA

MSNBC reports that Gov. Corzine’s chief of staff, Lisa Jackson, will be the next EPA Administrator.

Jackson headed up New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection before being tapped in October to head the front office. Before joining the DEP, she spent 16 years working for the EPA. Last month, she was tapped by Obama to oversee the transition of the EPA.

Politico reported last week that Jackson would likely be appointed to the position.

If Lisa Jackson becomes the Director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, sources suggest that Governor Jon Corzine could tap his Chief Counsel, Edward McBride, as his new Chief of Staff.  Other sources say that McBride's replacement might be Bill Castner, the outgoing Executive Director of the Assembly Majority staff.

Reports that  Lisa Jackson could be headed to Washington as Barack Obama's Environmental Protection Agenecy director means that Gov. Jon Corzine will need to appoint a new Chief of Staff.  Jackson, who spent nearly three years as Corzine's Commissioner of Environmental Protection, replaced Bradley Abelow on Monday. Now she could be gone next month, just as Corzine begins his bid for re-election to a second term.

Report: Jackson close to being named EPA administrator

Politico reports that Gov. Corzine’s chief of staff, Lisa Jackson, may be the next administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

A source tells the online news site that the appointment of Jackson is “close to a done deal.”

Jackson was sworn in as commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in 2006. She was named as Corzine’s chief of staff in October, and was tapped to be on Barack Obama’s transition team last month.

Corzine taps new DEP head

Governor Corzine today picked a career worker from the Department of Environmental Protection to head up the agency.

Mark Mauriello, an Assistant Commissioner who’s worked for the DEP for 28 years, replaces Commissioner Lisa Jackson as she moves up to replace Bradley Abelow as Corzine’s chief of staff.

“This is a pivotal time for all of us who are committed to safeguarding and improving our environment and the quality of life in our communities, with energy and climate change issues being at the top of the list,” said Corzine in a statement. “I look forward to working closely with Mark in the coming year and will rely on his considerable expertise and sound judgment.”

    Corzine picks Jackson as Chief of Staff

    Gov. Jon Corzine has named Lisa Jackson, the state Commissioner of Environmental Protection, as his new Chief of Staff.  Jackson will succeed Bradley Abelow, a former Goldman Sachs partner who has held the job since last year.
