(TRENTON) - Assemblywoman Linda Stender today addressed a special meeting of the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee, urging the panel to ensure that Washington hears loud and clear New Jersey's objections to the proposed sale of major port operations to a company owned by the United Arab Emirates.

Premo ran the challenger campaigns of Democrats Matt Doherty and Jim Reilly for State Assembly in the 11th district last year. Stender, a three-term Assemblywoman and former Union County Freeholder and Mayor of Fanwood, is expected to be unopposed for the Democratic congressional nomination; her rival, former Hillsborough Mayor Joseph Tricarico, dropped his campaign for Congress on Sunday.

Assemblywoman Linda Stender filed with the Federal Election Commission yesterday as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress in the seventh district. Stender and former Hillsborough Mayor Joseph Tricarico are vying for the chance to take on three-term Republican Congressman Michael Ferguson.

There are rumblings within the Democratic Party that Jon Corzine is bungling the selection of his successor to the United States Senate, the first major decision of the governor-elect's tenure. Democrats in Washington and in Trenton are complaining that by waiting more than a month after his election to name his successor, Corzine allowed presumptive Republican Senate nominee Tom Kean, Jr. to have a free pass at his press conference with NRSC Chair Elizabeth Dole this week -- something the Republicans did not give Corzine at his own gubernatorial announcement one year ago. Democrats are grumbling that by dragging out the announcement of his successor, Corzine is preventing the party from setting up a political operation that would have already challenged Kean on many of his positions and that by dithering on an announcement, Corzine is continuing to give Kean a free pass in the media while preventing an incumbent Democratic senator from gaining traction and seniority both in New Jersey and in Washington.
