Casha has $200k warchest

Larry Casha, a candidate for the Republican nomination for State Assembly in the 26th district, already has $200,000 in his warchest -- mostly from a personal loan he made to his own campaign. The Kinnelon Council President, Casha is making his second bid for the Legislature: he ran in a 2001 Special Election Convention after Carol Murphy resigned to become a Public Utilities Commissioner, but lost to then-Freeholder Joseph Pennacchio. Pennacchio is running for the State Senate seat that will be vacated next year through the retirement of incumbent Robert Martin. Jay Webber, a former congressional aide who challeneged Martin in the '03 Senate primary, is running against Casha for the open seat.

WEBBER LEADS ON LEGISLATIVE PENSION REFORM
Candidate renews call for end to lifetime benefits to legislators; issues invitation to opponent to join him

Morris Plains, NJ – 26th District Assembly candidate Jay Webber today issued the following statement.

Pension reform for New Jersey officeholders is a major issue facing our State. Three years ago, as a candidate for the New Jersey State Senate, I called for a complete end to pension benefits for part-time elected officials, such as our State Senators and Assemblymen. My logic was simple: none of the voters working part-time jobs receives a pension for part-time work; why should the voters’ elected representatives?

Casha Announces Assembly Run
Kinnelon Republican to campaign for 26th District Assembly Seat

Kinnelon – Kinnelon Council President Larry Casha today announced his intention to run for 2007 Republican nomination for the 26th Legislative District Assembly seat soon to be vacated by State Senate candidate Joe Pennancchio.

“I am running for the Assembly because New Jersey is faced with serious fiscal problems, Casha said. “As a lifelong resident of the 26th District, I know all too well that the taxpayers are tired of the gross overspending and burdensome taxes that have been forced on them over the past five years. Our District receives only pennies back on every dollar we send to Trenton. This needs to change. We need to send less of our hard earned money to Trenton in the first place.

Casha will be running on a platform of lowering taxes through smaller, open government, increased penalties for political corruption, reduced spending, fiscal responsibility for the taxpayer, and an end to double and triple dipping of salaries and pensions by public officials. In addition, New Jersey needs to re-establish a business friendly climate to create jobs and expand the state’s economy. Casha will also emphasize that just identifying and complaining about our problems isn’t enough. Offering solutions is crucial to creating meaningful change for New Jersey.

Specifics on:

Smaller government: Reducing state mandates and giving local elected officials the tools to reduce spending as well as incentives to share services and eliminate ineffective and useless agencies will lower taxes.

Political corruption: Government officials on all levels guilty of crimes in connection with their official duties should have mandatory enhanced sentences imposed. The risk of political corruption should not be worth the reward.

Multiple Office Holding and Pensions: Appointed and elected officials should only be allowed to be paid one salary and receive one pension. Multiple pensions need to end.

Revitalize the economy: New Jersey has been voted one of the least business friendly states in the United States. Trenton’s taxing policies and regulatory demands must be reduced to keep and attract quality businesses

“Reducing taxes doesn’t take political courage, cutting spending and shrinking the size of government takes courage. Our state is in crisis, Casha concluded. “It will take political courage coupled with experience and a proven record of accomplishments to turn our state away from financial ruin.
