ON TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, WILL CASHA EXPLAIN BREAK FROM MARTIN WING OF GOP?

Morris Plains, NJ - The Webber for Assembly campaign today released the following statement from campaign spokesman Tom Weisert.

As the dust settles on the Lewis v. Harris gay marriage decision, noteworthy are the obvious contradictions between Assembly candidate Larry Casha's purported opposition to the decision, and his long history of identifying himself with politicians who have affiliated themselves with the gay-rights movement.

Supreme Court decision damages marriage

Kinnelon – Larry Casha, 26th Legislative District Assembly candidate issued the following statement today in reaction to the New Jersey Supreme Court’s decision to allow “civil unions (aka, gay marriage):

“I wish I could say I am shocked that the state Supreme Court has ruled that “civil unions are legal in New Jersey. They have often been on the wrong side of the beliefs of our citizens. Whether it was the candidate switch in the 2002 Senate campaign or the mandated spending of taxpayer’s dollars which is the function of the legislature not the courts, the Supreme Court has disappointed us yet again.

“This decision will, again, drive employee benefit and pension cost even higher as our state is faced with financial crisis after financial crisis.

“Now that the Court has made its ruling, we must work in the Legislature to protect traditional marriage. The institution of marriage is one of the foundations of our society and we must not let it be weakened by an activist, liberal Court.

NEWARK NEEDS REFORM
Casha supports audit in New Jersey’s largest city

Kinnelon – Republican Assembly candidate Larry Casha (26th District) issued the following statement in support of Assemblyman Joe Pennacchio’s call for a complete audit of Newark finances:

“In light of former Mayor Sharpe James’ charges of over $200,000 on city credit cards to travel to exotic locations around the world, Assemblyman Joe Pennacchio has called on Governor Corzine to order a complete Treasury Department-led audit of Newark spending. I wholeheartedly support Assemblyman Pennacchio’s efforts.

“The citizens of New Jersey have been saddled with ever-increasing taxes and out of control spending by Trenton Democrats. Newark has been a recipient of many of our tax dollars. Now it is coming to light that some of those public funds have been misused by Sharpe James.

“I have repeatedly highlighted the unethical behavior of Sharpe James while he was mayor and it is a good time for U.S. Attorney Chris Christie to launch this investigation. It’s also time for the Democratic-controlled Legislature to stand up and stop public officials from abusing the citizens’ trust. Enough is enough.

Special Prosecutor finds Farber violated ethics rules
Governor Corzine and Democratic Legislative Leaders must step up and ask for her resignation

Kinnelon – Larry Casha, candidate for 26th District Assembly issued the following statement concerning Special Prosecutor Richard Williams’ report on Attorney General Zulima Farber’s actions at a Fairview traffic stop:

“I applaud the work that Special Prosecutor Richard Williams has done in his investigation of Attorney General Zulima Farber. His report details that Farber did not uphold the law when she intervened on her boyfriend’s behalf to prevent him from receiving a ticket for driving without a license or registration.

“Based on the findings of this report I, along with the citizens of the 26th District, demand that she step down immediately.

“Our state has been plagued with unethical politicians and public servants and it’s high time that Governor Corzine and the Democratic Party live up to their statements that they will not stand for any appearances of impropriety from their highest government officials.

“If the citizens of this state cannot trust the chief law enforcement officer of our state to conduct herself in an ethical and upstanding manner, who can they trust?

“Enough is enough. It’s time for Farber to go.

Casha supports strong legislative effort to reform state worker benefit policy
Consolidating municipal services also a key to property tax relief

Kinnelon – A major part of New Jersey’s financial crisis can be tied to the outrageous state employee benefit program. 26th District Assembly candidate Larry Casha supports strong reforms that will save millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars every year.

“It’s time that we eliminate the practice of ‘double-dipping’ by politicians in state, county and local offices, Casha said. “Former Newark Mayor and current State Senator Sharpe James is one of the most egregious examples of this practice. James makes over $320,000 – almost as much as the President of the United States! Enough is enough!

A joint legislative panel is discussing ways to reform pension reform and Casha will be watching them closely.

“It’s important that they get it right, Casha continued. “We want to be fair to the many employees that have been working hard for us, but we can’t continue to spend millions of dollars on multiple pensions as we watch our state’s budget balloon out of control.

Another issue facing our state, one that can contribute to lowering property taxes is consolidation of municipal and county services. Currently there are over 1,300 separate taxing entities in New Jersey. The joint legislative committee will be addressing this issue as well.

“Along with pension reform, we need to look at consolidating some government services, particularly school administration, Casha added. “There are 566 municipalities in the state and 593 school districts. As a councilman in Kinnelon Borough, I understand the importance of working with neighboring municipalities to save taxpayers money is important. We currently share with some of our neighboring towns, the first aid squad, tax assessor and Health Officer – which saved 40% of our Health Officer budget expense and continue to look for other opportunities to share services.

In addition Casha added: “Many of our government workers have spouses that are also employed by government. Under the current system we pay full family health insurance premiums for both spouses. This is a ridiculous waste of millions of taxpayer dollars. It should be state law that only one policy is purchased per government employee family.

Casha’s 26th Legislative District includes Bloomingdale Borough, Butler Borough,
Chatham Borough, East Hanover Township, Florham Park Borough, Hanover Township, Kinnelon Borough, Lincoln Park Borough, Montville Township, Morris Plains Borough,
Parsippany Troy Hills Township, Pequannock Township, Pompton Lakes Borough, Riverdale Borough, West Milford Township.

FARBER MUST RESIGN, PART 2
Transcripts clearly show influence

Kinnelon – Twenty sixth district Republican Assembly candidate Larry Casha issued the following statement concerning the recent release of phone transcripts between New Jersey State Police Lieutenant George Justin, Zulima Farber’s driver, and Fairview Police Department dispatchers on Memorial Day 2006:

“Attorney General Zulima Farber says that she did not influence events that led to her boyfriend being allowed to drive an unregistered vehicle while his license was suspended, but the transcripts of the call between her driver and the Fairview Police clearly show other wise.

“At one point in the call the senior Fairview officer at the scene, speaking to his dispatcher, mentions that the car belongs to ‘the Attorney General’s family’, to which the dispatcher responds, ‘why the hell didn’t you tell me?’. After which the AG’s boyfriend was allowed to leave the scene without the proper paperwork for his vehicle as long as Farber followed him home. No influence? The citizens of New Jersey know better.

“People I speak to around my district know that they would not be afforded the same leeway if they were caught with an unregistered vehicle and suspended license. Enough is enough! Abuse of power doesn’t have to mean money changing hands. It’s about using your position to gain unfair advantage. This is clearly what happened.

“It’s time Governor Corzine calls for Farber’s resignation and if he won’t do it, Farber should demonstrate true leadership and step down herself.

Top law enforcement official abuses power; New Jersey deserves better

Kinnelon – 26th Legislative District Republican Assembly candidate Larry Casha issued the following statement calling on Attorney General Zulima Farber to resign her office as New Jersey’s chief law enforcement officer:

“Enough is Enough: Attorney General Zulima Farber must resign. As the highest law enforcement officer in the state, Farber has abused her power and authority to intervene in her boyfriend’s traffic violations this past Memorial Day. But that is not the end of the outrage.

“Farber is the subject of a special investigation that will cost taxpayers $75,000 per month*. After Governor Corzine raised our taxes and continues to spend like there is no tomorrow, these additional expenditures are just another slap in the face.

“Farber should be required to reimburse the state for this investigation. What kind of example is she setting for the children of our state? We should accept nothing less than an immediate resignation.

Enough is Enough

Sharpe James makes hundreds of thousands of dollars from salaries and pensions; taxpayers take a hit

Montville – The recent, disturbing abuse of public tax money revealed in a Monday, July 17th article in the Star Ledger confirms that State Senator, Director of the Urban Issues Institute and “recently-returned-from-a-twenty-year-leave-of-absence-from-the-Essex-County-College Democrat Sharpe James receives annual salaries and pensions totaling over $323,000. 26th District Assembly candidate Larry Casha, cited this report as another example of the need for serious pension reform.

“The taxpayers of New Jersey have been abused for years. Whether it’s former Governor McGreevey’s bloated budget spending or current Governor Corzine’s outrageous sales tax increase; New Jerseyans are always left holding the bag for some politicians that can’t seem to do what’s right. Unfortunately, this is the tip of the iceberg.

“This is nothing short of criminal. For a former mayor of New Jersey’s largest city to milk the system without any regard for the future of that state that he works for is simply outrageous. This is why I reiterate my support of Assemblyman Jon Bramnick's bill to ban pensions for Legislators. When I’m elected to the State Assembly, I will fight to reform the pension system so this won’t happen again, said Casha.

Here’s the shocking truth about Sharpe James’ largesse:

Mayor’s annual pension: $124,654
State Senate salary: $49,000
Urban Issues Institute salary: $150,000

James is also sitting on $988,000 in a retirement account through the Essex County College that was accumulate during the time that he was supposedly a full-time Mayor and part-time Legislator.

"Government workers should be entitled to one legitimate pension after years of service, not several as a result of questionable service. The only way New Jersey’s broken pension system can be reformed is if our elected officials don’t think that they have a right to lavish retirement plans after they leave government service. Serving the needs of the people is a privilege and an honor that should be taken seriously. I am not going to Trenton to get rich on the backs of our citizens, stated Casha.
