The state treasurer said today that revenues have come in 3.1 percent below projections so far this year. If collections continue at that pace, the state will have a $1 billion deficit this year. The estimated budget deficit for next year is $8 billion to $10 billion. The governor is again doing too little. too late, then calling himself a man of action.

Tom Kean Asks Corzine Why He Won't Give Taxpayers Details of Biden Buyout

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean asked why Governor Corzine has not released cost estimates of the concessions he agreed to before a campaign rally with Vice President Joseph Biden. According to a letter written by state union leaders to all their members, the concessions included putting hundreds of temporary workers into permanent positions at an unspecified cost to taxpayers. Kean called on the governor to live up to his promises of transparency and accountability, and release the Treasurer's best estimates of how many workers will become permanent and how much this policy change will cost taxpayers.

DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP ATTACKS CULTURE IN NEW JERSEY

Desperately seeking Gov. Corzine has declared war on funding culture in New Jersey.

Apparently, there is a hotel-motel tax established in 2003, which was meant to guarantee that a portion of the tax revenue would help fund the arts. The law includes a "poison pill" provision that eliminates the tax should arts funding drop below $16 million.

Desperately seeking Gov. Corzine's plan calls for $14.4 million, or $1.6 million under the law's threshold.

Bill Gets Final Legislative Approval, Paving Way for 16-Year Olds to Donate 

            TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey and Senate Republican Leader Thomas H. Kean, Jr., which would help increase the availability of potential blood donors, was approved today by the full Senate.  Bill S-2513, approved by a vote of 37 to 0, would lower the legal age to donate blood to 16 with parental consent.
