“We need a Governor who understands the urgency of the situation here in Atlantic City and the importance of ensuring honest and clean elections,” said Freeholder At-Large Frank Giordano. “By putting Craig Callaway behind bars Chris Christie has already done more to ensure free and fair elections in Atlantic County than Corzine and the Democrats have during their tenure in Trenton.”

“With the Atlantic City Casinos already operating on life support, Jon Corzine and the Democrats are continuing their assault on the tourism industry here in Atlantic County,” said McDevitt. “Shutting down the casinos, scaling back shore protection, massive tax and toll increases have already weakened the tourism industry, and now Corzine’s decision not to fully fund these programs will place the future of more than 100,000 jobs and 17,000 small businesses in jeopardy.”

Republican Atlantic County Freeholder candidate Joe McDevitt attacked his Democratic opponent, Joe Kelly, for not doing enough to put stricter controls on the use of absentee ballots, a hot button issue in Atlantic County.

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson and the three Republican candidates for the County Board of Freeholders said today that “by admitting that he had no idea how the county tax rate was established, Democrat county executive candidate Sheriff Jim McGettigan effectively removed himself from any serious consideration for the executive post.”

Atlantic County Freeholder at large candidate Joe McDevitt today suggested that the first candidates’ debate of the county election campaign concentrate on the county budget and the debate should be between his opponent, Democrat Freeholder Joe Kelly, and his running mate, Sheriff Jim McGettigan, Democrat candidate for County Executive.
