Is Jennifer Beck the smartest legislator?
Senator Jennifer Beck (R-Monmouth), 41, is Vice President of Qual-Care, a hospital and physician-owned managed care company. She is a graduate of Boston College, where she majored in physics and mathematics, and received a master’s degree from the Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. Beck served on the Red Bank Council before unseated Assemblyman Bob Morgan in 2005 and State Senator Ellen Karcher in 2007.

Newspapers prefer Assembly to Senate

In key State Senate races so far, daily newspapers have endorsed the challengers -- in each case, from the State Assembly: the Press of Atlantic City has endorsed Democrats James Whelan and Jefferson Van Drew over GOP Senators Sonny McCullough and Nicholas Asselta, respectively; and the Asbury Park Press is backing Republican Jennifer Beck over Senator Ellen Karcher.

Beck lands key endorsement in big state Senate contest

The Asbury Park Press on Sunday endorsed Republican Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck over Senator Ellen Karcher in the 12th district senate race.

In an editorial titled "Beck must win in 12th district," the paper said, "Karcher lacks the fervor Beck shows for easing residents' tax burdens. She also lacks Beck's passion for driving a stake through the heart of a school funding formula that unfairly penalizes suburban property owners, who are not only being asked to pick up the tab for their home school districts but forced to subsidize urban districts, many of which are badly mismanaged."
