DeCROCE AND MALONE SAY BUDGET SPENDING CUTS AND SAVINGS NEED TO BEGIN NOW

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce and Budget Officer Joseph Malone said that Governor Corzine must take swift action to address the state’s budget shortfall, which was estimated at $190 million for the first quarter alone.  DeCroce and Malone said state revenues cannot sustain government’s out-of-control spending and immediate action must be taken before the state goes into bankruptcy.

MALONE STATEMENT ON REVENUE SHORTFALL

    Months after Assembly Republicans identified several examples of how wasteful spending continues in New Jersey's public school systems despite reforms touted by Governor Corzine, his Education Commissioner Lucille Davy has ignored requests by Assemblymen Alex DeCroce and Joe Malone to provide updates whether her department has taken action on any of the items discovered last spring.

    Assembly Republican Budget Officer Joe Malone said today the Motor Vehicle Commission’s plan to raise motor vehicle fees beyond what is needed is yet another attack on New Jersey’s middle class.

    Republicans on the Assembly Budget Committee unanimously opposed a measure allowing school districts to borrow earlier than usual because top Democratic legislators could not guarantee that Governor Corzine would make up for the $383 million school aid payment he plans to skip next month.
