RELIEF FOR COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT TABLED BY ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS

AMODEO/POLISTINA BILL WOULD ELIMINATE JOB KILLING TAX ON APPROVED PROJECTS PRIOR TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING LAW

            Yesterday, Assemblyman Vincent Polistina’s motion to relieve stalled legislation related to commercial developments that were retroactively assessed a fee under the new affordable housing law was tabled by Democrats during the Assembly’s voting session.  The bill has seen no action by the Housing and Local Government Committee since its introduction last September.  Essentially, the proposal provides a remedy for non-residential developers who had obtained site plan approval prior to Governor Corzine signing the new affordable housing law last July, but were nevertheless levied a two and one-half percent surcharge on their project if they had not obtained a certificate of occupancy.

ASSEMBLY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING SPECIFIC PROJECTS TO IMPROVE TRANSIT AND PUT PEOPLE TO WORK

    Assemblymen John Amodeo and Scott T. Rumana requested that members of the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee meet soon to discuss how to proceed with road projects that are needed to improve crumbling roads and create jobs in a failing economy.

AMODEO SLAMS DRPA ON $18.3 PERCENT SPENDING HIKE, SALARY INCREASES

 In response to a media report today that the Delaware River Port Authority’s (DRPA) operating budget will increase more than 18 percent next year due to its highest in the nation debt burden for a toll-collecting agency and salary increases for its nearly 1,000 employees and chief executive, Assemblyman John Amodeo today called the proposed spending plan highly irresponsible and an affront to commuters who ultimately foot the bill.

Assembly Transportation Committee Members Call for Legislative-Sponsored Public Hearings on New Corzine Toll Hikes

In an effort to prevent Governor Jon Corzine from keeping any details of his new toll hike increase proposal shrouded in secrecy as he did his original failed monetization plan, the Republican members of the Transportation, Public Works & Independent Authorities Committee are calling on Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts and committee chair Assemblyman John Wisnewski to hold public hearings on the plan as soon as possible.
