GOVERNOR PROPOSES STREAMLINED CHARTER APPROVAL PROCESSPATERSON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced significant growth in the number of and enrollment in New Jersey’s charter schools.  Since 2006, the number of charter schools has increased by 34 percent while student enrollment rose almost 55 percent.

TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine issued the following statement regarding the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Third District Leading Indexes Report for July 2009 indicating that New Jersey’s economy returned to positive growth in the last seventeen months:

GOVERNOR CORZINE ANNOUNCES RECORD NUMBER OF CHILDREN ENROLLED IN PRESCHOOL THIS YEAREnrollments increase more than ten percent since 2006 

PLAINFIELD –Describing the State’s investment in preschool as one of the most important measures of his administration, Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced the State will surpass 50,000 preschool enrollments for a record number 51,100 children to be served in preschool programs this year.  The Governor made the announcement at the grand opening of a new 10-classroom preschool facility financed through the African American Fund of NJ (AAFNJ).

GOVERNOR CORZINE MEETS WITHPARENTS AND TEACHERS IN SOUTH BRUNSWICK SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Calling education an investment in our economy, Governor Jon S. Corzine today met with a group of approximately 30 parents and teachers at the South Brunswick High School library to reaffirm his commitment to the highest educational standards for New Jersey students. The listening session was designed to highlight the concerns of parents and teachers as the new school year begins.

GOVERNOR CORZINE NAMES INTERIM CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER FOR CAMDEN TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today named Albertha Hyche, a manager in the Division of Administration in the state Department of the Treasury, as the interim Chief Operating Officer for the City of Camden.

PRINCETON - In an important step toward even safer health care in New Jersey, Governor Jon S. Corzine today signed legislation requiring public reporting of each hospital’s patient safety performance and rates of serious medical errors.

Corzine today signed the following Executive Order calling for the United States and New Jersey flags to fly at half-staff on Wednesday, September 2, 2009.

GOVERNOR SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER ENSURING MINORITIES AND WOMEN BENEFIT FROM ECONOMIC STIMULUS PROGRAMS  

TRENTON – Vowing to do all he can to ensure minorities and women benefit from state and federal economic stimulus dollars, Governor Jon S. Corzine today signed an Executive Order at Drumthwacket requiring the 109 state agencies, authorities, commission and colleges include underrepresented minorities in the recovery effort.
