Joined by SDA CEO Kris Kolluri and Superintendent of Schools Ronald C. Lee, the Governor celebrated the opening of 12 new and modernized schools statewide this September, marking the continued progress  made by New Jersey’s school construction program.

Corzine today visited the Edmund Hmieleski, Jr., Early Childhood Center in Perth Amboy to announce the New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) has completed 144 major construction projects, including 45 new schools.  All told, the SDA has invested $5.293 billion in projects since January 2006, generating an estimated 45,800 jobs and creating approximately 45,000 new student seats.

Corzine today convened a conference of more than 400 federal, state and local law enforcement officials to address four critical areas facing urban towns: catastrophic planning, the mix of crime and terrorism, mass transit safety and security, and the balance of safety and commerce in the region’s port areas.

NEWARK – Governor Jon S. Corzine today celebrated the Newark School District’s first day of class by ceremonially opening the new Park Elementary School, one of 12 new or renovated facilities the Schools Development Authority is opening in September.

GOVERNOR PROPOSES STREAMLINED CHARTER APPROVAL PROCESSPATERSON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced significant growth in the number of and enrollment in New Jersey’s charter schools.  Since 2006, the number of charter schools has increased by 34 percent while student enrollment rose almost 55 percent.
