State submits Federal application to expand family planning services for over 70,000 residents

NEW BRUNSWICK – Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced that New Jersey has applied to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for a waiver to expand Medicaid coverage for family planning assistance for over 70,000 New Jerseyans otherwise not qualified for subsidized insurance.

More than 110,000 New Jersey homes have received energy efficient improvementsNearly 6,000 Garden State businesses have benefited from energy efficiency support since 2006NEW BRUNSWICK - Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced that solar energy installations in New Jersey increased ten-fold since 2006. The state now has 100 megawatts (MW) of solar energy installed, which is enough to supply the electricity needs for more than 15,000 New Jersey homes. As a result, New Jersey now has the most solar installations in the country per square mile, surpassing California by nearly two to one. The Governor made the announcement during the second annual Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Governors’ (NEMAG) Clean Energy Innovation Forum.

Corzine joined New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) representatives, state and area officials, and Phillipsburg Board of Education leaders today to break ground on the new Phillipsburg High School. The ceremony signaled the start of site preparations for the building of foundations to support the structure of the main high school, which will comprise 320,000 square feet of academic space. It will house more than 1,700 students upon completion in 2013.

National Report Shows African American, Latino and Low-Income Students Making Gains

TRENTON–New Jersey’s public schools are making notable progress in closing the achievement gap between African American, Latino and low-income students and their classmates, Governor Jon S. Corzine and Education Commissioner Lucille Davy announced today. A national study released this morning, State Test Score Trends Through 2007-08, indicates that between 2006 and 2008, the percentage of students proficient in math and reading has increased throughout the state.
