GOVERNOR CORZINE’S STATEMENT ON CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL OF THE UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION EXTENSION ACT OF 2009  TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today issued the following statement regarding the Congressional vote to approve the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2009 which extends unemployment benefits for an additional 14 weeks in every state and by 20 weeks in states with unemployment rates of 8.5 percent or higher. The Governor recently sent a letter to the Congress urging extension of unemployment benefits for those who have or are about to exhaust their unemployment assistance:

TRENTON – Governor Jon S. Corzine today outlined several measures needed to maintain balance in the FY 2010 budget and fulfill his commitment to maintain a balanced budget through his remaining two months in office.

GOVERNOR CORZINE ANNOUNCES RELEASE OFFIRST QUARTER RECOVERY ACT DATA FOR NEW JERSEY Almost 20,000 state-created or retained jobs reported in New Jersey through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding   TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced the release of the first quarterly report on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds received and expended through September 30, 2009.  Of the nearly $3.2 billion reportable awarded amount, $2.8 billion has resulted in job creation programs to date.  The nearly $310 million expended to date has resulted in the creation or retention of almost 20,000 jobs for New Jersey residents.  These figures do not include jobs indirectly created or induced.

Nine New Jersey Schools Selected; Improved Achievement Gaps HighlightedCHERRY HILL - Governor Jon S. Corzine and U.S Education Secretary Arne Duncan today visited the Rosa International Middle School to honor students, teachers and administrators for being named a 2009 NCLB Blue Ribbon School. It is one of nine New Jersey schools to receive the designation among 314 schools nationwide.

NEWARK - Governor Jon S. Corzine, accompanied by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, today announced the launch of the ‘Cover our Kids Community Campaign’ to enhance NJ FamilyCare outreach efforts through community-based and faith-based organizations. The project involves multiple statewide training sessions to familiarize community leaders and local agencies with the program’s eligibility requirements and application process. 

GOVERNOR CORZINE AND EDUCATION COMMISSIONER DAVY ANNOUNCE RELEASE OF VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS REPORT 

TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine and Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy today announced the release of the Department of Education’s annual report on school violence and vandalism, which shows a continued decline in the number of incidents of violence, vandalism and weapons in New Jersey’s public schools.

GOVERNOR CORZINE SIGNS INTERNET SAFETY MEASURES TRENTON – Further enhancing the State’s aggressive Internet Safety initiatives, Governor Jon S. Corzine today signed two bills that will increase Internet security and aid Internet crime prevention in New Jersey.
