NEW JERSEY SUBMITS ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND CONSERVATION PLAN FOR $14.4 MILLION IN FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDING 

Leveraged with Existing Clean Energy Programs, Funds Will Maximize Results and Highlight State’s Energy Leadership

TRENTON - Governor Jon S. Corzine today announced the details of New Jersey’s application for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to be distributed under the federal Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program.  New Jersey will receive $75.4 million under the program of which approximately $61 million will go directly to 75 eligible units of local government and $14.4 million will be administered by New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program operated by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. The state’s submission detailed its plans for the $14.4 million in federal funding.

Corzine joined U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan today to launch President Obama’s Summer of Service initiative in New Jersey. The program, United We Serve, is a nationwide service program designed to encourage citizens to participate in the nation’s recovery and renewal. From June 22 to September 11, United We Serve will engage Americans in addressing community needs in education, health, energy and the environment, and community renewal.

GOVERNOR CORZINE RECEIVES HUMANITARIAN AWARD FOR DARFUR EFFORTS FROM STUDENT GROUP 

HADDONFIELD – Students from the Haddonfield Memorial High School chapter of Students Taking Action Now: Darfur (STAND) today presented Governor Jon S. Corzine with the HMHS Humanitarian Award. The award is given annually to an individual who has shown strong leadership and support toward ending the genocide in Darfur.

GOVERNOR SIGNS NEW BRIDGE LANDING LEGISLATIONUnveils signage renaming train station 

 “This is a site we must preserve for future generations,” Governor Corzine said. “The bill I am signing grants oversight to a local organization best positioned to address the preservation needs of Historic New Bridge Landing State Park. Through this legislation, the Historic New Bridge Landing Park Commission will now have jurisdiction to manage the restoration of this historical site so critical to the birth of our nation.”

GOVERNOR CORZINE LAUDS $891 MILLION IN STATE FISCAL STABILIZATION FUNDS NEWARK - Governor Jon S. Corzine today welcomed the announcement by U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan that New Jersey’s State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application has been approved in the amount of $891 million, and New Jersey will be eligible to apply for another $440 million in the fall. Duncan was in New Jersey for a visit to North Star Middle School Academy’s Clinton Hill campus in Newark.  The stop is part of the Secretary’s "Listening and Learning: A Conversation about Education Reform" tour.

GOVERNOR CORZINE SEEKS TO INTERVENE IN SPORTS BETTING LAWSUITQuestions the fairness of federal law that outlaws wagering in all but four states  

TRENTON – Gov. Jon S. Corzine today announced he would seek to intervene in support of a federal lawsuit filed by state Sen. Raymond Lesniak in an effort to overturn a federal ban on sports betting in New Jersey and 45 other states.
