Chamber Honors NJ Devils Goaltender in Becoming the All-Time NHL Leader in Regular Season Wins by a Goaltender

(TRENTON) - Assembly Democrats today issued a multimedia package honoring New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur for achieving a record-setting 558 career wins, becoming the all-time NHL leader in regular season wins by a goaltender.

Brodeur, a West Orange resident who has played with the New Jersey Devils for his entire NHL career, surpassed the win record of 551 games, previously held by Patrick Roy, on March 17.

ALBANO / BARNES / EVANS / GREENSTEIN / MILAM / SCALERA INTERNET SAFETY BILLS CLEAR SENATE PANEL

(TRENTON) – Legislation Assembly members Nelson Albano, Peter Barnes III, Elease Evans, Linda Greenstein, Matt Milam and Fred Scalera sponsored that would give law enforcement enhanced abilities to crackdown on child Internet crimes was advanced Tuesday by a Senate panel.

The bills are part of Attorney General Anne Milgram’s Internet safety initiatives. They were approved by the Assembly in March.

“This would give law enforcement the tools they need to better protect children who use the Internet for education and recreation,” said Greenstein (D-Middlesex/Mercer). “No longer will Web sites be the playgrounds of criminals looking to prey on vulnerable children.”

SCALERA BILL ADVANCES TO MAKE IT EASIER TO ACCESS EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

(TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Fred Scalera to make it easier for emergency management officials to access materials needed to respond to a crisis is advancing toward law.

The bill (A-2457) would require the state Office of Emergency Management to maintain a regional database of public and private entities that provide emergency supplies.

(TRENTON) - Assemblymen Fred Scalera, Herb Conaway, M.D., John J. Burzichelli and Wayne P. DeAngelo today issued a multimedia package on a special meeting of the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness and Health and Senior Services committees to review the state's readiness to combat H1N1 influenza.

(TRENTON) – Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Chairman Fred Scalera (D-Bergen/Essex/Passaic) released the following statement after a special joint hearing today by the Assembly Health and Senior Services and Homeland Security and State Preparedness committees on the H1N1 flu and what it means for New Jersey:

Monday Meeting to be a Joint Health & Homeland Security Hearing

(TRENTON) – Assemblymen Fred Scalera and Herb Conaway, M.D., today announced they will convene a special hearing Monday to address the H1N1 flu – or swine flu - outbreak and what it could mean for New Jerseyans.

The hearing will be a joint meeting of Conaway’s Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee and Scalera’s Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee. It will feature testimony from state officials.

Monday’s hearing is scheduled in the State House Annex at 11 a.m. in Committee Room 11.

SCALERA FORMS LEGISLATIVE FIRE CAUCUS

Assemblyman Fred Scalera today issued a multimedia package on the formation of a bipartisan, bicameral legislative fire caucus to help educate legislators about fire and life safety issues.

Scalera (D-Essex), a career firefighter and former deputy fire chief, said the newly formed caucus would mirror similar efforts in place at the national level.  The caucus will operate as a nonpartisan advisory body, working to educate legislators about the needs and challenges of New Jersey's fire service professionals and recommending and endorsing specific legislation to provide the types of training and funding needed by first responders.  With nearly 70 members of both parties and both houses signed on to be members, it promises to be one of the largest legislative caucuses in the state.
