CFO DeRoberts Should be Placed on Unpaid Leave
Criminal Investigation by Union County Prosecutor Launched

Potential Investor Lawsuits Loom Should DeRoberts be Retained

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J (October 16, 2006) – Today, the New Providence Democratic Party called on the Mayor and Council to place Ken DeRoberts, the Borough’s CFO, on unpaid leave in the wake of the launch of a criminal investigation of Mr. DeRoberts by the Union County Prosecutor. The Borough Council is aware of the investigation, according to Councilman Brooke Hern. The Prosecutor has already begun interviewing Borough employees, including Jim Testa, Secretary of the Board of Education and has sought to interview at least one relative of a sitting member of the Council. The Prosecutor is investigating whether Mr. DeRoberts was annually provided a salaried position, without competitive bidding, to reconcile the books of the Board of Education while a Borough employee paid an hourly wage by the Borough actually did the work, and if so, whether State law was violated.
