 TRENTON – Senator Loretta Weinberg, D-Bergen today reacted to the Inspector General’s report on EnCap by saying that U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie should begin an investigation into possible criminal acts in connection with the project:

“With all due respect to Mr. Trump, he has unfortunately been guided into the intractable political and physical swamps of Jersey and is putting his good name on very bad deal.  I am sure he doesn’t need advice from me, but I would tell him to get out of this deal now. There is nothing for him to gain here.” 

Whatever developer follows EnCap, he has to be responsible and has to be committed to cleaning up the landfills that we were promised would be cleaned up by Cherokee.”   

“The EnCap scandal is one of the biggest boondoggles in state history and yet neither Sen. Weinberg nor Assemblywoman Huttle is calling for an investigation,”

“Our mayor has been running around telling everyone that even if she did squander millions in EnCap hush money,  at least the borough was getting an environmental clean up. Well, apparently that’s not true. What we have is a conspiracy to create another Love Canal on the banks of the Hackensack River.” 

“Where are the state watchdogs? Tanelli. “With all due respect to the state attorney general, is she asleep on the job? Why do we have to find out about EnCap’s misdeeds from a newspaper reporter?  When will our own state’s law enforcement people wake up and stop  protecting EnCap and the politicians who support this disaster?

            Senator Gerald Cardinale, (R-Bergen), today expressed dismay that the Legislative leadership is delaying hearings on the financial and environmentally troubled Encap project until after the election. Cardinale wants to know why New Jersey officials provided a politically connected developer with $300 million in public money to build a golf course and condominiums on sealed landfills despite warnings that the developer lacked the financial, managerial and technical resources to complete the project.

The last thing we need in the meadowlands is another insider, back room deal that rewards developers at the expense of taxpayers and  residents,” said Hipp.
