CRYAN: IN EYE OF FISCAL STORM, GOVERNOR ENSURES SCHOOLS REMAIN A TOP PRIORITY

(UNION) - Assembly Education Committee Chairman Joseph today applauded Governor Jon S. Corzine and Education Commissioner Lucille Davy for delivering additional school aid funds for New Jersey's children and property taxpayers.

Governor Corzine says he'll cut school aid, even if the Legislature won't go along with his irresponsible pension deferral scheme. Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean says that the governor shouldn't wait to tell parents, school administrators and district officials where he plans to cut their budgets. The governor needs to speak up right now.

ASSEMBLY APPROVES GREENWALD/FISHER BILL
TO EDUCATE PARENTS ON SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME

(TRENTON) -  The Assembly today voted 77-0 to approve legislation Assembly members Louis D. Greenwald and Douglas H. Fisher sponsored to require the state include information about Shaken Baby Syndrome to new parents.

Noting the hard work and dedication of New Jersey’s local board of education members, Gov. Jon S. Corzine has proclaimed January 2009 as School Board Recognition Month in New Jersey. Approximately 4,800 citizens serve their communities as school board members, without compensation.
