ANNCR: Can Doug Forrester change New Jersey?

He says he's going to lower property taxes. But he raised property taxes 200 percent.

Under Forrester, West Windsor's Tax Rate Increased 200 Percent In Four Years. Between 1979 and 1983, when Forrester served as mayor and councilman of West Windsor, the town's tax rate increased 200 percent. The New York Times reported that, during Forrester's tenure, he and the Township Committee increased property taxes from 38 cents per $100 of assessed value to $1.19. As the Star Ledger reported, "the tax rate did triple." [West Windsor Budgets, 1979-83; New York Times, 5/26/05; Star Ledger, 6/2/05]

"Property Taxes Indeed Increased 200 Percent" Under Forrester. In October 2005, the Trenton Times reported, "One thing is clear - property taxes indeed increased 200 percent during Forrester's West Windsor Township Committee tenure." [Trenton Times, 10/17/05]

Jon Corzine believes corporate polluters should pay to clean up toxic waste.

Doug Forrester wants taxpayers to pick up the bill.

Corzine Repeatedly Proposed And Voted For Reinstating The Superfund Tax On Polluters. In the U.S. Senate, Corzine has voted five times in favor of reinstating the Superfund Tax on polluting industries. The measures Corzine supported would amend budget resolutions in order to account for revenues that could be recovered by reinstating the tax. Corzine voted twice in the Senate Budget Committee for amendments he himself sponsored, and voted three times on the Senate floor for amendments sponsored by himself and Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ). [Vote #45, Lautenberg Amendment to S Con Res 95, Rejected 44-52, 3/11/04; Vote #97, Lautenberg Amendment to S Con Res 23, Rejected 43-56, 3/25/03; Vote #27, Motion to table the Lautenberg Amendment to H J Res 2, Agreed to 53-45, 1/23/03; Budget Committee: Motion to adopt the Corzine amendment, Rejected 10-12, 3/10/05; Budget Committee: Motion to adopt the Corzine amendment, Rejected 11-12, 3/13/03]

WHERE ARE THE ANGRY SUBURBANITES?

by David P. Rebovich

"Where are the angry suburbanites?" This question is being asked by political reporters, observers, and operatives, especially operatives in the Republican Party. And most especially in the Forrester campaign, which needs strong turnout by suburbanites and a strong support from them for the GOP gubernatorial candidate to have any chance of catching Jon Corzine by Election Day. But at this point there is no evidence that a large number of suburbanites will show up at the polls on November 8th, much less that a sizeable majority of them will vote for Doug Forrester.
