Assemblyman Michael Panter's campaign today said Declan O'Scanlon is not in a position to render a serious judgement about the record of the two-term Monmouth County Democrat.

O'Scanlon, a Republican councilman from Little Silver who is challenging Panter, issued another war whoop over the weekend about Panter's inability to implement real ethics reform because of the assemblyman's close ties to Speaker Joe Roberts.

"It's absolutely preposterous," responded Dan Reilly, Panter's campaign manager.

Days after campaign finance reports showed Mike Panter and Amy Mallet, taking almost $600,000  from PAC’s controlled by Assembly Speaker Joe Robets and Trenton Democrat leadership, 12th District Republican Assembly candidates Declan O’Scanlon and Caroline Casagrande today accused Mallet of failing to file a quarterly report on a four year old election account which contains a $117,000 debt to a political advertising firm tied to Roberts and South Jersey political boss George Norcross.

Republicans in the 12th district said they tried to get Democratic Assemblyman Michael Panter and his running mate Amy Mallett to sit down in the studios of News 12 New Jersey for a debate Tuesday. 

It's not going to happen.

"We have a scheduling conflict," confirmed Democratic campaign spokesperson Tali Israeli.

Republicans Declan O'Scanlon and Caroline Casagrande wanted some nose-to-nose time with Panter and Mallett on air following a scheduled taping of Karcher v. Beck.

Declan O'Scanlon, the Republican candidate for State Assembly in the 12th district, says the work he does on behalf of municipalities to help them site cellphone towers saves the taxpayers money.

Assemblyman Michael Panter beat him once - but not by much in their last mano-a-mano in the 12th District. Now Republican Declan O'Scanlon's back, and challenging Panter's record as a reformer, which the Little Silver councilman says is substantially over-rated.

Red Bank, NJ- The Beck for Senate and O’Scanlon and Casagrande for Assembly campaign released the following clarification regarding a story in today’s Asbury Park Press in which Assemblyman Michael Panter claimed they were “grossly misleading the residents they want to  represent”:

12th District Republican legislative candidates Jennifer Beck, Declan O’Scanlon and Caroline Casagrande, speaking today in front of the Covered Bridge adult community in Manalapan, asked their opponents, Ellen Karcher and Mike Panter, to correct blatantly false statements made by Panter in a Septemer 18, 2007 Asbury Park Press article in which Panter claimed he and Karcher “have opposed every tax increase”.
