Senator Steven Oroho, R-Sussex/Morris, called on the Trenton Democrats to quickly move S-2453, which would repeal regulations issued by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that mandate onerous educational requirements for volunteer municipal recycling coordinators.

It's clear the governor doesn't trust the people or the democratic process, Senator O'Toole said. He wants to deal with problems the same way he did as chief executive of a Wall Street bank – behind close doors and with no input from anyone but insiders.

The governor has told voters to trust in the fantasy that a miraculous economic turnaround or another stimulus package will lift New Jersey out of a $10 billion hole. Trenton's leadership should acknowledge reality and call a session now to ensure the next governor has options for dealing with a fiscal crisis of unprecedented scope.

Senate Deputy Republican Leader Diane Allen called on Jon Corzine to join the bipartisan chorus urging Congress to delay a vote on a health care reform bill until Washington figures out a way to pay for the plan without shifting costs to the states.

Senator Joe Pennacchio is counting down the days until Governor Corzine actually keeps his promise of transparency in the spending of $17 billion in federal stimulus aid. Is this aid going to generate the maximum amount of jobs for New Jersey, or is it being used as an election-year goody bag for the governor's supporters? It's impossible to know if the governor won't keep create a Web site that shows where the $17 billion is really going. 

Senior Freeze are great, but they are no substitute for common sense tax and spending reforms that would make New Jersey more affordable to everyone. Governor Corzine should be apologizing for not providing the tax relief he promised when he first ran for governor, not touting increased spending that is a direct result of his failed policies.

Senator Joseph Kyrillos, senior Republican on the Senate Economic Growth Committee, said today's report that New Jersey's unemployment rate surged to 9.2 percent in June shows the state is paying a terrible price for Trenton's inexcusable neglect of economic development over the last eight years. Governor Corzine should be calling the Legislature into special session to reverse the anti-jobs policies he has helped champion, Kyrillos said.

New Jersey Unemployment Surges to 9.2%

Senator Joe Kyrillos, senior Republican on the Senate Economic Growth Committee, said today’s report that New Jersey’s unemployment rate surged to 9.2 percent in June shows the state is paying a terrible price for Trenton’s inexcusable neglect of economic development over the last eight years. In addition to having the highest unemployment rate in the region, Kyrillos noted that New Jersey led the nation in new jobless claims during the week of June 27.
