Corruption

The fiscal crisis that Governor Corzine is creating is real and unprecedented in its scope. A two-year budget would help prevent governors like Corzine from saddling taxpayers with crippling debts just to win re-election.

Even with the promise of bipartisan support, this governor has failed to get his package or any meaningful ethics legislation through the Legislature. It's no wonder voters are questioning whether the governor really wants reform or if his September announcement was merely an attempt to pander to the polls in an election year.

“I think this could be very embarrassing for Chris Christie as his campaign goes forward. I think Mike DuHaime owes it to  Mr.  Christie to demand that Scott Rumana get his house in order.” 

Governor Rod Blagojevich was indicted by the federal government this week because he was caught on wiretaps saying he wants to get something of value for appointing Barack Obama’s successor to the U.S. Senate.  What a ****** surprise!  A politician wants to use his official power to “trade” something of value— in this case appointing an individual to the U.S. Senate—for a personal benefit, lots and lots of moolah.  If this standard would be applied throughout the United States, there would be a lot of indictments.

According to one former congressional staffer and observer of America’s political scene, there are members of Congress who have secret offshore accounts.  When I was told this I was incredulous.  We know there are scoundrels in Congress who have been caught taking bribes and/or soliciting bribes, but secret offshore accounts, I asked?  He insisted.  yes, members of Congress stay in office for decades, because the monetary benefits are enormous. 

12TH District legislators Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande today urged the legislature to pass A-1444 and S-686, which would change current law by forcing any public official convicted of corruption to forfeit all their public pensions and applying to all public officials, regardless of when their crimes took place.

New reports indicate Sharpe James is directing political contributions from his jail cell. Kean and Baroni are preparing legislation that will ban politicians convicted of corruption from using their campaign accounts to influence elections or public policy in New Jersey.

Democrats should stop leaking information about a few grants and reveal all grants and which Democrats decided where the money would go. The Treasurer has all these facts. The Governor should order him to put it on the Governor's Web site immediately.
