“The state legislature is killing us,” said Crifasi. “They pile on mandates and then cut aid to small towns such as ours. How can they go back in session this week and fail to recognize the problems of this state.?"

Senator Steve Oroho (R-24) said this after learning that housing officials in Trenton knew, before the law was passed, that families who own homes destroyed by fire or other natural disasters would be required to pay new fees to finance low-income housing construction:

"Apparently, the Department of Community Affairs was well aware of the problems this new fee and quota systems would cause for victims of disasters. And they didn't speak up to prevent these fees from being opposed. This is the kind of decision-making that gives Trenton bureaucrats a reputation for being totally insensitive to the needs and sensibilities of average taxpayers. It's only common sense. Traumatized victims of fires should not be considered fair game for a new revenue raising scheme."

Senator Steven Oroho, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee issued the following statement after learning that the Ferraro family of Franklin, Sussex County, must pay thousands of dollars in "affordable housing" fees before they can rebuild their home after a tragic fire:

COAH law means new taxes for long-term economic development projects vital to bringing new jobs and growth to the state.

North Arlington Council President Steve Tanelli today called on the North Arlington Republican Council candidates James Herrmann and Jim Bocchino to condemn NJMC Commissioner and former Mayor Leonard R. Kaiser for his “enthusiastic and unequivocal support” backing hundreds of Low Income Housing apartments in North Arlington and neighboring towns.

 “The real question,” Tanelli asked, “is whether Herrmann and Bocchino are going to stand up for North Arlington against the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission proposal seeking to put 5,000 Low Income Housing units on our doorstep.”

 “Are they still the Kaiser ‘Yes Men’ they’ve always been?”

Does Mr. Doria think Sen. Codey is grandstanding too? Obviously he and Sen. Paul Sarlo (who offered to cosponsor the legislation) see a downside to COAH-3. So do a lot of others

Senator Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R-16) criticized legislation signed into law today by Governor Jon Corzine that prevents towns from fulfilling their affordable housing obligations by helping neighboring communities pay for needed development and redevelopment:

“Capitalism is responsible for the current food crisis and starvation around the world,” the voice on the radio said. “Attend our Introduction to Marxism conference this Friday and learn about the merits of Marxism.” Driving up the New Jersey Turnpike, I was shocked to hear this commercial on a popular radio station, though I shouldn’t be. The Left is on the march and more emboldened than ever. So, like any good capitalist wanting to learn what the radical left is up to, I registered.
