The Clean Elections District Selection Committee has designated the 14th district in Mercer and Middlesex counties as the split district to receive public financing. Each party is eligible to receive up to $1.6 million in funding, if they qualify.

Clean Elections set to meet today

Despite the weather,  the Clean Elections District Selection Committee scheduled for today is still set top meet today to choose between districts 12 and 14 as the Clean Elections split legislative district.  Democratic leadership -- and GOP State Senate candidate Bill Baroni -- want the 14th and the Republican legislative leadership want the 12th.

Kean won't serve on Clean Elections panel

The meeting of the Clean Elections District Selection Committee is set for Monday to choose between the 12th and 14th districts to receive public financing in the 2007 general election.  Former Governor James Florio will chair the panel, which includes: former State Sen. William Schluter, former Democratic State Chairman Tom Byrne, AFL-CIO staffer Steve Lenox, and former Assemblywoman Carol Murphy.  Murphy was named today by Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce to replace former Governor Thomas Kean, who has a scheduling conflict for Monday and is unable to attend the meeting.

Republicans have sough the designation of the 12th, while Democrats prefer the 14th.

Clean Elections: 25 and 37?

Republicans have designated the 24th district district as their Clean Elections district.  Earlier in the day, Assembly Republicans had indicated that it would be the neighboring 25th, but State Sen.  Anthony Bucco strongly objected.

Democrats are leaning toward the 37th district, where their incumbents face a hotly contested -- and expensive -- primary from the Bergen County Democratic Organization.
