Menendez stays out of local politics, sort of

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez won’t pick a horse in the Hudson County Democratic primaries. But the Senator was in Jersey City today with Tom DeGise to tour the new St. Joseph’s School for the Blind facility, and he had some kind words for the Hudson County executive.

Menendez praised DeGise’s use of federal Community Development Block Grants to help build new facilities like the one he toured today.

Menendez named DSCC Vice Chair

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez has been named Vice Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the 2008 election cycle -- positioning him to succeed Charles Schumer in the leadership post in two years.  “Bob Menendez was one of the most respected members of the House and has already proven to be a leader in the Senate,” Schumer said.  “He has been a fighter for what is right his entire life and effective in achieving it.  He has one of the best political minds in the Congress, and we’re happy to have him on board.”

Poll: N.J. likes Lautenberg

U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg, who is expected to seek re-election to a fifth term next year, has favorables of 51%-23%, according to a Fairleigh Dickinson University poll. That is statistically the same as the 53%-25% position he had in March.

New Jersey's junior Senator, Robert Menendez, continues to struggle with his favorables: 36%-31%, just slightly better than the 36%-34% in a March FDU poll.

Lautenberg approvals up seven points

U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg, preparing to seek re-election to a fifth term next year, has a 47%-29% approval rating – up from the 40%-32% in a February 2007 Quinnipiac University poll.  The state’s junior Senator, Robert Menendez, is upside down – 34%-36%; he was at 34%-35% in February.
