Some excitement for Unanue among GOP

The buzz among Republican insiders over the last two days is that party leaders seem genuinely excited by the prospects of millionaire businessman Andy Unanue entering the race for United States Senator.  The former Chief Operating Officer of Goya Foods, one of the largest Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States, makes an interesting candidate: a self-funder who his 44 years younger than the incumbent and can compete for Latino votes.

The 40-year-old Bergen County resident, whose family operates the largest Hispanic-owned foods company in the U.S., is an Employer Trustee for the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union Pension Fund, and has been raising money for presidential candidate John McCain.

Salem GOP backs Pennacchio for U.S. Senate

Salem County Republicans endorsed Joseph Pennacchio for U.S. Senate tonight. Pennacchio, a State Senator from Morris County, also has the organization line in Bergen, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Passaic, and Union counties. Millionaire businessman Andy Unanue has party support in Atlantic, Ocean and Monmouth counties, and Ramapo College Professor Murray Sabrin has the backing of the Gloucester County GOP.
