The reason Hillary cancelled Jersey City rally? Team couldn't pull it off in Healy's city

Hillary Clinton's campaign staff wasn't quite accurate when they said that the cancellation of a rally in Jersey City on Monday afternoon was due to scheduling conflicts.  Sources say that Jersey City Councilman Steven Fulop's possible challenge to Conrgessman Albio Sires in the 2008 Democratic primary was hardly the reason -- but rather the inability of the New Jersey Clinton campaign organization to successfully stage an event in Jerramiah Healy's Jersey City.  Healy, the Mayor and Hudson County Democratic Chairman, is supporting Barack Obama.  The New Jersey Clinton campaign organization is experiencing some severe organizational problems, with substantial conflicts between local fundraisers and the national campaign headquarters.

Clinton nixes rally with Sires rival in Jersey City

Did Hillary Clinton cancel a public event in Hudson County today because she doesn’t want to take sides in a fledgling Democratic congressional primary next year?

Clinton was scheduled to hold a rally in the shadows of the towers that make up the Newport development in Jersey City, but citing scheduling conflicts, the Clinton campaign called off the public event. Five of seven Democratic Congressmen would be interested in succeeding Lautenberg

They may not be the top fundraisers in the state, but don’t count Bill Pascrell or Rush Holt out of seeking Frank Lautenberg’s Senate seat if it ever opens up.

Both Congressmen were careful about the wording of their ambitions, stressing that they fully support Frank Lautenberg and that the idea of an open Senate seat is purely hypothetical. But neither would rule out seeking the seat if it does open up. Read More >
