In Case You Missed It:
Eugene E.T. Lawrence for Assembly
HADDON HEIGHTS – Before an energized crowd, Camden County GOP Chairman Richard DeMichele, Jr., announced former Gloucester Township Councilman Eugene E.T. Lawrence as the county’s candidate for the General Assembly in the 4th Legislative District.
Lawrence addressed the packed room with a passionate speech about the need for government to start working for the people who elected them, rather than acting as if it was the other way around. In a statement to the press, Lawrence also criticized Governor Jon Corzine’s budget for unfairly targeting middle class families.

One-half of the Republican Party's slate of candidates to run for Assembly in the 4th District was set Thursday night when party leaders announced a former Gloucester Township councilman as their choice.
One-time Democrat Eugene "E.T." Lawrence, 56, will run for the statewide office with a yet to be determined candidate from Gloucester County.
"He has a unique ability to bring people together all across the district," said Camden County GOP executive director Tim Saler. "We are very excited to have him on the ticket."
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Lawrence railed against Gov. Jon Corzine for announcing a $29.8 billion budget this week that calls for cuts to property tax rebates and unpaid furloughs for state workers.
"The people of Gloucester Township and the 4th District are suffering today, and they are suffering because Jon Corzine has decided to try to balance his budget on the backs of middle-class families," said Lawrence. "His budget doesn't go far enough to eliminate wasteful government programs."
Lawrence served on the council from 2000 to 2006 and wrote the first Affirmative Action policy for the township.

Camden County Republicans have picked up a former Democrat to run for State Assembly in the 4th district.
At a rally tonight, the party plans to announce that former Gloucester Township Councilman Eugene E.T. Lawrence will switch parties and run as a Republican against incumbent Paul Moriarty (D-Washington Twp.) and whomever Democrats pick to replace outgoing Assemblywoman Sandra Love (D-Gloucester Township). Lawrence's candidacy has been kept under wraps by Camden County Republicans, but they hyped it as a "game changer" last week.
In a statement, Lawrence aimed squarely at Governor Corzine's budget proposals, criticizing him for eliminating the property tax deduction.
"The people of Gloucester Township and the 4th Legislative District are suffering today, and they are suffering because Jon Corzine has decided to try to balance his budget on the backs of middle class families," said the former Camden County Chamber of Commerce and NAACP leader.
Republicans championed Lawrence's work in favor of affirmative action, noting that he wrote Gloucester Township's first affirmative action policy.
