Elvis impersonator Michael Albanese told the Star-Ledger's Tom Moran last week that he has been offered a taxpayer-funded job in exchange for dropping a criminal complaint against Anthony Chiappone, the Hudson County Democratic Organization candidate for State Assembly in the 31st district. Albanese worked for Chiappone when he served as an Assemblyman in 2004.
In Moran's column, which ran in the Star-Ledger and Jersey Journal last Friday, Chiappone admitted that he deposited a $200 check meant for Albanese into his own account while Albanese was his legislative aide. Albanese filed a criminal complaint against Chiappone, but dropped it after the Bayonne City Councilman paid him back-- after the state Division of Criminal Justice began investigating the alleged theft.
Now, Albanese is back on Team Chiappone, and told Moran he was promised a paying staff job if all goes well on Election Day. If Albanese was being truthful with Moran and was actually promised a state job, that possible violation of state law could get both men in serious trouble.
