KEAN: ALLOW STATE EMPLOYEES TO DONATE SICK & VACATION TIME TO GUARD FAMILIES
Senator Thomas Kean has written a letter to Rolando Torres Jr., Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Personnel, asking him to expand the state employees leave donation program to help military families. The current program allows state employees to donate a percentage of their unused sick or vacation time to other state employees suffering from a catastrophic health condition or to care for a family member who suffers from such a condition.
Senator Thomas Kean, (R-21), has written a letter to Rolando Torres Jr., Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Personnel, asking him to expand the state employees leave donation program to help military families. The current program allows state employees to donate a percentage of their unused sick or vacation time to other state employees suffering from a catastrophic health condition or to care for a family member who suffers from such a condition. The state employees leave donation program has been in effect for more than 10 years. The letter details Senator Kean's request to expand the program to assist families whose spouses have been called to active duty.
"I am committed to this endeavor to help the families of our service men and women who are serving overseas in defense of our freedom," Kean stated. "Our state work force is made up of caring and generous people who would be willing to donate some of their time to help the families of our military personnel meet an unexpected emergency or household need while their spouse is overseas. I prepared to introduce legislation that will expand the program if necessary."
