LESNIAK BILL ADVANCES TO FIGHT GYPSY MOTHS

TRENTON - The Senate today approved a bill sponsored by Senator Raymond J. Lesniak to appropriate $750,000 in federal funds to help fight gypsy moths in New Jersey.

"The damage inflicted by gypsy moths on our woodlands could be extensive unless we take advantage of all available resources," said Senator Lesniak, D-Union. "These federal funds will represent local and statewide tax relief for our residents in New Jersey."

TRENTON - The Senate today approved a bill sponsored by Senator Raymond J. Lesniak to appropriate $750,000 in federal funds to help fight gypsy moths in New Jersey.

"The damage inflicted by gypsy moths on our woodlands could be extensive unless we take advantage of all available resources," said Senator Lesniak, D-Union. "These federal funds will represent local and statewide tax relief for our residents in New Jersey."
Senator Lesniak said the Legislature and Governor must act by next month to enact a law that will qualify New Jersey for a federal appropriation to help ongoing state and local efforts to fight the gypsy moths who consumed thousands of acres of leaves in wooded areas last year.

"By acting now to conduct safe and effective aerial suppression programs across New Jersey, we will be preserving our woodlands now and in future years," Senator Lesniak said.

The funding under the legislation, S-1846, would come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Senate approved the measure 39-0 and forwarded it to the Assembly.
