Senator Anthony Bucco, (R-25), issued the following statement regarding reports in the press that some of his colleagues in the Legislature are proposing to install traffic surveillance cameras through out the state.
“I find it mind-boggling that one of my colleagues in the General Assembly would even consider installing cameras designed for covert surveillance of law abiding American citizens. This type of activity is exactly what the founders of this Nation where trying to protect us from when they adopted the Bill of Rights 230 years ago. George Orwell’s warned us of the kind of government abuse of basic civil rights in his classic novel ‘1984’ and I would hope the New Jersey Legislature is not working to make his predictions come true.
“I also find it expedient that this proposal which will raise much more money in traffic fines is being proposed in this tight budgetary climate. Published reports state that these types of cameras raised over $100 million for the District of Columbia. I hope that the Democrats in charge of the Legislature ignore this measure and instead work to bring this budget into balance without raising taxes again this year.

"The history of failed attempts at health care reform reaches back decades. But more important than the historical achievement is what the reformed system will do for everyday Americans. We aren't just making history, we are making a better health care system." -- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), on the passage of health care reform legislation.
