SOUTH BOUND BROOK - The Somerset County division of the Constitution Party of New Jersey (www.SomersetCP.com) unanimously expressed its outrage and disappointment in the passing of the government's bailout bill on Friday. Eight out of NJ's thirteen representatives, as well both senators, voted for the 451-page bill filled with hundreds of millions of dollars in pork projects.
"It's obvious Congress is filled with politicians that will use any excuse to spend money," said county coordinator Jason Edwards. "The New Jersey politicians who bought into the bribes must be replaced and we'll be working hard in Somerset County to make that happen."
Retiring Congressman Mike Ferguson said the bill "put America's interest first." Sen. Bob Menendez said the new bill was "a plan that focuses on middle class taxpayers." Sen. Lautenberg said that "we fought hard to make sure this economic recovery package was far stronger than the three-page blank check the Administration proposed." The Somerset County Constitution Party disagrees with all three.
"Not only does this bill massively extend the power of the Treasury Secretary, where he can expand this bailout as large as he wants, but it's loaded with waste," explained Mr. Edwards. "Hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars are going to rum producers, race tracks, corporations in American Samoa, and for wool research - not to mention to pay for union pensions."
The Somerset County Constitution Party, currently seeking new members, believes New Jersey's politicians do not reflect the opinions of the people. Mr. Edwards said, "The people want something to be done, but not this! Printing this much money is only going to inflate our currency - how are higher gas and food prices supposed to help the middle class?"
