Florham Park, NJ (May 27, 2008) – Today the campaign of US Senate candidate and State Senator “Jersey Joe” Pennacchio asked Dick Zimmer exactly how many bales of hay equal $1,000.
According to a recent news report Dick Zimmer’s campaign claimed he sold over $1,000 worth of hay from his 24.5 acre estate. The report did not specify when this hay was sold.
Pennacchio campaign manager Dan Gallic said, “Considering his campaign claims Dick Zimmer sold $1,000 worth of hay he should be willing to put this issue to rest. Zimmer should tell us who he sold the hay to.”
Gallic asked, “What kind of hay did Zimmer sell? Was it mulch hay to a contractor? Was it high quality hay sold to a horse farm? If so, what was the ratio of grass to alfalfa in this hay? Did Dick Zimmer collect sales tax for the hay his campaign says he sold?”
“Obviously for Mr. Zimmer’s farm to find customers to sell his hay to he had to do some type of marketing,” Gallic added. “Was Zimmer’s marketing to prospective hay buyers by direct mail, newspaper advertising or word of mouth? Was the hay sold in round bales or square bales?”
“Assuming this hay was sold last year Mr. Zimmer should be able to tell us who cut the hay, raked the hay, baled the hay and stacked the hay,” Gallic stated. “Obviously someone other than Dick Zimmer did all that work considering he was so busy lobbying in Washington that he had to vote by absentee ballot.”
“If he is unwilling to answer these questions the least Mr. Zimmer could do is release his tax returns showing the income,” Gallic said.
Joe Pennacchio is a New Jersey State Senator representing the 26th Legislative District.
