Florham Park, NJ (May 20, 2008) – Today the US Senate campaign of State Senator “Jersey Joe” Pennacchio outlined the tax cutting differences between Dick Zimmer and Joe Pennacchio.
Pennacchio campaign manager Dan Gallic said, “One need only look at the facts to see who the real tax cutter is in this race, and it’s not Dick Zimmer. In the state legislature Dick Zimmer voted to increase the sales tax from 5% to 6%. Joe Pennacchio voted against raising the sales tax.”
Zimmer’s claims of being a tax cutter do not hold up when you look at his record. In 1986 Mr. Zimmer voted to eliminate the property tax deduction from the state income tax.
Gallic stated, “A look at Joe’s record proves he has been fighting for the taxpayers. As a Freeholder, Joe reduced taxes three years in a row, 3.5% in the first year, 2.6% in the second year and 4.5% in the third year.”
“Dick Zimmer continues to talk about being a tax cutter but his record speaks for itself. Zimmer even took bogus farm tax breaks while holding a $15,000 a month contract in the same county. I guess he’s talking about cutting his own taxes when he makes his claims,” Gallic quipped.
Joe Pennacchio is a New Jersey State Senator representing the 26th Legislative District.
