SAXTON CALLED ON TO RETURN DeLAY CAMPAIGN FUNDSToday, candidate for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, Richard Sexton, called on the 3rd District incumbent, James Saxton, to return $10,006 in campaign donations received by Saxton from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. DeLay has been indicted on multiple criminal charges stemming from his political fundraising activities.
"With the recent developments involving House of Representatives former Majority Leader Thomas DeLay, including indictments of Mr. DeLay for criminal conspiracy and money-laundering, I call upon your campaign to return the $10,006 in monies reportedly transferred to your campaign fund by Mr. DeLay's political action committee" Sexton wrote in a letter to Saxton.
Sexton also noted in this letter that Saxton had returned campaign donations made by Jack Abramoff, the multimillionaire lobbyist also under indictment for crimes stemming from political fundraising activities. Sexton is asking Saxton to join him in a pledge to refuse all campaign donations from persons or entities either charged with or under investigation for criminal campaign fundraising activities.
